Counter-counter culture is never funny.
I am sick and tired of people even saying the word "emo." So, they are doing whatever they can to fit in -- so what? It's what they want to do.
So they make out with boys... so?
So they wear make up... so?
So they "cut themselves"... so?
They aren't making you do all of this, so stop whining; it just makes you look pathetic.
note: this isn't directed at Solbadguy in particular, but just people in general.
It's not funny. Ever. And yes, no matter how much one says that one is not trying to be funny, I guarantee you: one is trying to be funny.

I just despise the term "emo" on the grounds that it sounds stupid. If the word you use to mock something is about 6 times dumber than the thing itself, you've missed the boat.
And frankly it's just such an ill-defined group that attacking or even labeling the group is idiotic--there is none. I can at least get behind goth-bashing because there are some powerful conformists who label themselves, all in the name of not being labeled and not conforming. Well I was attacking people who define themselves as emo. Also there's goths, and people do classify themselves as goth. I do see a trend of kids who act a certain way and define themselves a certain way. To me it's silly to say

I almost never see "emos" that haven't labeled themselves that.
And all of those things people hate about emos, they hate because they either hit them close to home, or because it has to do with seeking attention where they shouldn't get it. If it didn't effect other people, people probably wouldn't be bashing it as much. You don't see Jews getting bashed for the same reasons, because part of being Jewish doesn't include rubbing your culture in others' faces. | |

You know what I hate? When people say a certain genre of music, or a certain band, is bad.
Who the hell are you (of course, not you, Vorty :]) to say what bad music is. You know what the great thing about music is? Everyone has their own damned tastes. Not to mention, a lot of people have very wide ranges of music choice now a days. I listen to Linkin Park, and 3 Doors Down. But, I also listen to old school rap, Led Zeppelin, Muse, and Phish. I like Dashboard Confessional, yes. But I also like Billy Joel and David Gilmour. Disliking someone or thinking someone is stupid because of what they listen to is completely rediculous. And again Kunark, I guess this is where things change by location, but I -rarely- see anyone label themselves emo. I mean, my little sister's 12 year old classmates do it, but not really in high school. | |
