My friends and I were discussing the future of sidescrolling , 8bit, 2D games online. It seems like games of the such may soon die out since the newer generation of gamers are only interested in 3D platform games, since thats practically what they grew up around and are use to playing. So is it possible that in the next 10 years games like the one's on BYOND may essentially "Die out"?

The future of such games seems to be on mobile devices. There's definitely some interest in "retro" games regardless of generation, but I think in order to be a huge success and become mainstream, an oldschool sidescroller would have to be playable on iphones and the like
