Depends what OS you're running. If you're in a Linux environment and can run WINE, you can use that to run BYOND. On a Mac, an emulator called Parallels has gotten high marks from its users. Basically you have to emulate Windows.

I don't see why people don't just dual boot with windows unless they want to have both open at the same time or windows costs too much. I personally dual boot with Ubuntu.
