I remember back in 2002, BYOND was not so confusing as it is today (lol). One click boom theres your live games and the players in it. Now theres ads all over, I even seen hentai ads. Alot has changed over the years. But I remember how much I was on this program when I first found out about it when I was site surfing. I still like the program but its pretty hard to find a game to play now days lol. I remember when I ordered "The Blue Book". Anyone still have that book?
I still have the blue book.

Ad's should be filtered you should report that ad using this form - http://www.byond.com/support/
About the ads, i see the same O.O

Well that's not good, BYOND is supposed to be used by kids as well, this is portraying them as a kid friendly or professional environment at all.
I have never seen hentai ads.
Google's AdSense/AdChoices ads come from information Google gathers about you through cookies.
Basically, if you go to other websites with Google ads, or search for certain things, Google will associate them with you. So, if you go to explicit websites, search for somethings, someone does such things on your computer and the visited websites use Google's ad services, you might get things related to those materials on other websites.

These are not the fault of BYOND, though they could probably have stop appearing on the site by contacting Google.

You can opt out, or get more info, or add/remove interests using another Google service to get more ads which relate to you.

It's full of information about it, no need to blame BYOND, just blame whoever is using your computer for explicit purposes (and keeping cookies from the websites). ;)

Sorry but you are somewhat incorrect, BYOND does have control over this (working in the web industry I would know as we deal with Google ad words a fair amount), as I said before the site is used by kids hence rule #2 on the posting guidelines and BYOND should be filtering those ads.

[EDIT] And yes BYOND should be to blame they want a kid friendly and professional web site, this isn't portraying that.
BYOND filters the ads as they appear, there's no way to filter them until after they appear once.

You can block ads from categories related to sensitive topics such as Religion, Politics, and References to Sex and Sexuality. Sensitive category blocking is available for ads in a limited set of languages, regardless of the language of the site.

In one of my sites, all sensitive categories are blocked. I get at least 4 reports a month of ads that are inappropriate.
Inappropriate ads need to be blocked manually - the categories aren't accurate.
4 reports a month is pretty low, the majority of people on here anyway won't report the ads.
ATHK, do you honestly doubt that Tom wouldn't have blocked sexual related things if they were available to block?

I have never seen a hentai ad, the most sexual thing I've seen in an ad was an advertisement for an RPG showcasing a woman with large knockers (and filipino escort websites...I'm not even filipino). But, those things might be reflective of the websites I visit.

It might in fact be Google who isn't labeling the websites under the correct categories.

My point is that I can't prevent inappropriate ads from showing occasionally, so it isn't my 'fault'(like it isn't BYOND's), it's just the way it works.
Excuses.
I knew i'd see the "Cookies" thingy but its not i've went on my parents laptop just now (had to refresh a few hundred times xD) and saw it again.
What exactly was it advertising?
It was just some little anime girls in panties, not to sure what it was advertising for though.

It may have been Yugio mousepads, which is what I have been seeing. Rather comical if you ask me...and since I don't think there is actual nudity it isn't *so* terrible (how many kids haven't seen worse by the time they are 12?)

Anyway, back on topic I don't think the site is particularly confusing (type byond.com and click on "play", there's the games). I do miss the old categories or guilds or whatever they were - I remember there was a section for single player games, for rpgs, and so on. Also it is a little strange that to find the featured games you have to look through the forums, but then again it shows right on the byond client when you log in...

I thought Tom made mention of bringing some of the old structure back (like more control over hubs, and those guild pages maybe) so perhaps this is just a transitional phase.
Stop watching hentai if you don't want hentai ads. They're based of the content you see.
I wish I still had the source code from my game in 2003. I just want to look at it. haha
