Okay, I'm really, really sad right now. I've worked on my game (Emasym.DBLive3, all original programming) for over half a year now, and I even bought a BYOND membership a few days ago to be able to promote the game more. Hell, I screenshotted when I had 30+ people playing, I was that bloody proud of myself for achieving something like that, all on my own, having the age I have.
I do hope BYOND will try everything at their disposal. This is as big an outrage as BYOND can ever get.
I'm really bloody mad right now, and to the people saying "this is good news", go to bloody hell, you have no idea the amount of work some people put in those games.

LordAndrew, part of the reason why it WAS DBZ themed was because I got handed down the icons from the previous owners. I'm a lone guy that just does programming, studies programming, all that, and several attempts at finding icon artists have been unsuccessful.
And legal actions? Not if I'm not in USA they can't. |
Of course, regardless of where you live, BYOND still operates in the USA and suffers the penalties of the DMCA. The way the DMCA works, there is principally very little at BYOND's disposal, particularly as their ISP was slapped with it as well.

I know they are, I'm just glad I'm in the clear when it comes to that matter.
If only they were in a country like Sweden, BYOND could've been the Pirate Bay of licensed games. |
As the pirate bay lost and got fined a lot of money, I'm not sure BYOND would want to be that. =P

Well, considering I know quite a bit only spend around 5 minutes... I'd say the average might be 30 minutes to create a DBZ game overall. |

Emasym, sorry to rain on your parade but, 'all-original content'? After reading your post, I took you for someone who was intellectual, apparently not.
Did you create Dragonball Z, or any of its themes and characters? Because if not, I think you need to re-write your comment. Let's say that someone made the cure for cancer, woohoo! They copyright and patent it, fair enough, right? Then someone comes along, and makes a game based on that cure. Now lets say that the game also asked for money (Demonstration purposes) How would the person who found the cure feel? Someone else is profiting from their hard work. You do know that your game is a slap in the face of people who actually created all-original content, right? |
El Wookie, I was talking about the game. But fine, in your own metaphor, FUNimation created DBZ. Which is wrong. And you're mentioning money to put that idea in people's heads, which is both wrong and simply crude of you.
I do see where the confusion came from and have editted said post. |
I was directly referring to who owns the intellectual property, sorry for not making that clear.
The money was just to make my point more obvious, you're still taking credit for someone else's work, regardless of what back-end work you did. In fact, what you're doing is illegal. And no matter how much effort I put into robbing my bank, I'm still wrong, and shouldn't be supported, and I defiantly wouldn't go looking for sympathy after I got arrested. (Hypothetically, in real life I would never get arrested ;p) |
That, and it's not the programming that's the problem here, it's the name and content, which could easily be reworked.
