When I was around 11-13 I got it a few times after I switched schools. My dad had taught me to fight and stand up for myself so it wasn't much of an issue. If its a group of bullies...you only have to wound one of them...and then they just pick on that guy.

I have never experienced or witnessed bullying or anything beyond minor harrassment. That's a good way to put it. I've always seen "minor harassment", but never full-on consistent bullying to the point where the kid would want to suicide because he can't go to school without getting picked on and hurt. That's the kind of bullying you always hear about on TV and such, but I think the majority of bullying isn't that extreme. It's a problem, don't get me wrong. |
Falacy's a bully. He's gonna end up like the kid that got thrown down in the video, ignore him.
In terms of "bullying", I was really only an asshole to the bullies themselves. Bullying the bullies eh? |

You use words you have no idea how to use. Honestly, you call everyone a hypocrite. You talk about slaughtering children and becoming a cannibal; you really have no room to talk about bullying or morality.
My mother? Okay, Mr. troll. It's not like this dialogue matters. You'll be banned from this blog soon enough for trolling. Edit: At the risk of having my comment deleted since the rest of our argument was, I'll restate my response. You and him are both trying to troll, and failing. A bad troll is someone who easily gets caught trying to troll someone into an argument but gets caught. That would be you two idiots. Now go back to watching your child porn, you sick freak. |
I've never really been bullied before. If someone insults me i just insult them back, if someone hits me i hit them back, it's as simple as that.
But yeah, bullying is for people who are weak-minded and want to let out their stupidity on other people. |
Now that your diapers are fresh and your egos in equilibrium, I wonder if getting back to the original subject is too much to hope for.

Hey guys, let's get back on topic. Sometimes it's better to just turn the other cheek, eh?

I wonder if we could make this into a case study of what happens when a bully looks at himself in the mirror. Kind of like Godel, Escher, Bach, but not in particular.

I'm not going to read the 70+ comments so I'm just going to drop in my opinion.
Bullies are dicks, but they're still just stupid kids. Some don't even realize they're bullies until years later. What most bullies need is a good ass whoopin' to set them straight and make them think twice about their behavior. It builds character for both the bully and the person being picked on. As for the "outpouring of support for Casey" I'd say everyone falls into two basic camps. A lot of people on the internet were probably picked on in school, they want to live through the kid's actions as a way to get back at the bullies they never stood up to. The other camp is a preemptive strike against a bunch of pussies who condemn self-defense, claiming violence is never an answer. The goal is to get enough positive noise out there ahead of time in order to drown out the "concerned parents" who don't actually have any kids and love to be interviewed on Fox News. While it's true you should always attempt to talk things out, completely disregarding violence is just stupid and pretty dangerous in its own right. Violence should always be considered, but only as a last resort when talking just doesn't work. Some people don't want to negotiate or listen to reason, they only respond to violence. If you don't speak their language they'll just continue to trample all over everything. |
A boy at my high school actually committed suicide in grade 11, apparently due to bullying. It was a real wakeup call. Bullying does hurt people, and it can have very real consequences.

I was personally a subject to `subtle bullying` back in High School. They didn't want to come right out and pick on me because I was a big kid (270+ pounds, 290 at peak) so they stuck to making fun of the collar on my shirt when they were clearly referring to my neck, which had a mean lookin' crease in it.
That aside, there wasn't all that much bullying in my school. I went to a school of about 3,000, and all of the 'bullying' that really went on was the throw-a-freshman's-lunch-away day and people randomly picking on people who pushed themselves away from others. A good way to avoid these situations I've found is to find a sport you love and go for it. Whether it be wrestling, cross country, football, track, whatever. You get picked on less as a student athlete of some sort at the schools I've been to. |
I got bullied because I was a short person. I got called a fag because my hair was long. Then I made friends with the largest guy in school and practiced Taekwondo. :D
|
<joke>You stumpy bastard! Cut your hair, Fag!</joke>
Bullying is no joke, though. If you're the one doing it, know that it has very real consequences for the people you're doing it to. If it's happening to you, the general consensus seems to be to get into sports. If sports aren't your thing, get into another club. Things like that will get you involved in a social circle, which will make you friends, which leads to the proverbial "safety in numbers". |
You'd be surprised Folak. I've had people threaten me with scizzors and stuff. I'll be walking home from school and someone randomly driving down the road will call me a fag because of my hair. Of course I live in one of the most ignorant societies so yea....
Also if you don't like sports, try Church or FCA possibly. Never know. |
