So, I have seen through out Byond pay 4 optional benefits or other stuff in-game for awhile on games.

I, myself am thinking of trying this route out but i'm unsure on how to do so.

On my game Super Megaman Versus, the service I had in mind was your own unique custom character.

Nothing over powered, nothing like extra damage in shots or anything just your own (you supply your icon and blast icon) character only you can use.

I was thinking about charging for this kind of service since it requires me to hard code this into the game and make the portrait myself.

I was thinking around the price of 3$ but, at the same time i'm not really sure if i'm going to do this anyways.

So, does this sound reasonable? Would like to hear some feedback on the matter, thanks.
I think your game being a fangame, you should think more in the legal terms of what your doing.

Instead of that *what your selling is fair and not completly unfair to non paying people*
I'd say go for it. If Falacy can earn subscriptions for his anime games, why can't you?
I'm not sure if Falacy charges for his fangames. I'm pretty sure he just dupes people into paying for his original games thinking they're subscribing to his DBZ rip.

Judging from the amount of angry posters on the forum complaining about his subscriptions this has most likely proven to be an extremely profitable business tactic. Unfortunately for the rest of us those potential customers probably wont be throwing money at a BYOND game ever again.

Well, unless it's for a powerlevel boost.

That is what I meant. Most of his player-base are on his anime games which most likely means it's where most his money is coming from. Kids buying it so they can unlock super saiyan 20.

What he is doing is not illegal.

He is not charging people for a subscription to his games. He is charging them to becomes subscribers to his service. This just happens to give advantages in the games he has made.

It might sound crazy, but it is entirely legal since he is not accepting any payment for his fan games.

It sounds crazy because it is. If you charge for a subscription and part of that subscription provides bonuses for illegal stuff, the subscription itself is illegal.

It's like giving away free heroine to anyone who buys needles. Sure, the needles are perfectly legal and you're not selling the heroine, but it's pretty obvious the only reason people are buying needles in the first place is for the heroine.

^ I was going to respond with something along the lines of this but he beat me to it.

Say he started making like $50,000 a year in subscriptions and it made big news or something. You think IP owners would just say "Ah well, he's just selling subscriptions to his service and not necessarily to his anime games which makes up 90% of his player-base, so I guess we can leave him alone."

"This just happens to give advantages in the games he has made."

And why do you think he put those advantages in there? So he could profit. You're talking as if Falacy made his anime games with no intention to profit from them.
I don't think i'd do anything past customs, that would interfere with balance in the game.

Unless, I sold Event Points which would be useless as at the moment they only do one thing.
