Here is my theory on administrators. Their are two types: Those who actually monitor the server or those who abuse their powers like Joseph Stalin or Mao Zedong. I want you all to think before seledcting GMs to think if their actually worthy of becoming an admin. I'm truly fed up with games that abuse on games like, set off bombs, spawn meteors, and other wuitable annoying objects. Please heed my warning.

Admin is ten levels above GM see. Admin means you get the COOL stuff like the custom jutsu verb and even the edit verb. God being an admin is cool, especially when you can just boot people instead of having to bother to kill them.

To be completely honest - It would be better to have none at all.
I'm too lazy to make a game that is 100% automatically monitored, which is why I usually hire 2 - 3 moderators. All of which: a.) Have helped the game in some way. b.) I've known to be respectable and trustworthy. Not to mention that they have all the same commands I have - so no "GM1" "GM2" "Co-Owner" "Co- Co- Owner" shit. Also, boot is a useless moderation command. Keep it limited to Mute, Ban, and server commands. |
The few times I've bothered with making game master abilities, I've always logged all actions and the stated reasons why.
Really, you don't even need a host of GMs if you have a decent spam/profanity filter built in and play your own game once in awhile. |
You need someone smart to run the server. Else you'll get people who like to abuse. Which is why you don't give them more than they need to moderator the server.
|
See I dislike games that hire 5-15 admins because it means that they will be abuse heavily causing the game to lack of players.

There's not much administrating needed on BYOND games. Plus, its just a thing of annoyance. "Cn i b gm?" Every minute. There's no need for it, you just need a few moderators to help when there's not someone serious. And you'll find those good moderators by not giving them unfair advantages.

More professional games use a Administration System, showing something smart in the system.
But, GMs are not meant to have powers that could be abused. GMs are suppose to be assistance, guidance and support. And if there's any abuse the game actually, in itself, can't cover, then the GM can react to his job. Once games get bigger we'll find GMs jobs becoming serious. But how do you monitor 100s of Enforcers to a game with millions of players. Thing is you don't. You sit there, let the money come, and slap an enforcer on the wrist every now and then so that people think you're doing something. We're still a little small though so we don't have to worry about these strategies yet though. |

It annoys the troll, and while it is another step in the process, it provides the chance for someone to actually realize they were a negative part of the community - and "ideally" fix their ways. I've seen it work too - much rarer, but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt that they can learn. |
You shouldn't need an Admin to babysit your game...and that's what people do on BYOND for most games. To bad the baby sitter is an angry retarted bi polar emo twelve year old just hitting puberty, so the baby sitting is just not fun for anyone.
