I posted a comment in my last post about working on yet another computer. The thing is now clean, but I don't know what I should do with it. It's old and the CD drive is not working.
My first choice was to use it to get some Linux installation experience. However, I'd rather use CDs than do a net install. I want to be able to look up what I'm doing at the same time.
My second choice was to run a permanent Norn zoo. I have at least two games from the Creatures series. However, they are on CDs.
I was researching artificial life when I came across the fact that Creatures Docking Station could be downloaded for free. I now have a way to get the program on to the bleeping thing. I'm a bit paranoid about what sort of stuff would be downloaded, but the zoo computer will rarely be online. (More worrisome is that fact that I'm about to install it on my good computer for the heck of it.)

I found Docking Station to be worse than the other creatures games, especially from the lag perspective. Well, mainly from the lag perspective, since I couldn't really do much with the game because of the lag.

I just wasn't interesting to me. Your creature didn't really change, and the environment was always the same. What fun is that?

I don't really have a choice without a CD drive. I'm not touching warez and there's no way that infected thing is going to be connected to my main computer. I don't care how much I supposedly cleaned off of it.
There are things which can be added to Docking Station, but I'm having a hard time finding them. The Docking Station site has the Magma norns. AmberCreatures has rooms to add and I've found them kind of neat. However, their other additions are not listed as being for Docking Station. I'd like to know if I can use things from Creatures 3. There seem to be a bunch of additons for that. I think it's one of the games I own too. If so, I could upload some things from my main computer and then download them to the Docking Station computer. If somebody would like to give me some information on where to find more stuff, that would be great. |
