Some of you may have noticed some changes happening to Regressia behind the scenes. Back in July there was an update planned, but it feel through due to lack of committed play testers. This turned out to be a good thing, as the new version released today has not only been better received by players, but is also closer to the original vision of the game. Here's a list of major changes:
- There is now a Website for Regressia. The website has info for people who are new to BYOND on how to download and install the program. It also functions as a "Shrine" with all sorts of information about the game. Want to know exactly what the Necklace does? It's all there. For convenience, the website can also be reached via the address Regressia.tk.
- Included with the website is a complete walkthrough detailing every part of the main quest: where you should go, what monsters you will encounter, how you should defeat them, and strategies for the bosses. Like all walkthroughs, this one contains major spoilers, so you shouldn't read it unless you're completely stuck.
- Every monster in the game has been edited and rebalanced based on formulas, and not simply my whim. Experience rewards are the most notable example; hopefully this will resolve many of the problems with unfair monster difficulty.
- If that doesn't fix the problem, the new saving feature should. When you die now, you no longer automatically lose all your progress. Instead, you are given the option to save your progress. When you continue the game, you will appear at the last place you saved.
- Differing "times" for different skills have been removed: All spells now take the same number of AP in order to use. Players will no longer be punished for using Wind or Quake. The sword skills are an exception, as they are based on the player's equipped weapon.
- Some enemy skills have been toned down, such as weak (which is half as effective as before), slash, and maul.
- Some areas and missions that were omitted from the original release (after negative responses from the play testing team) have been restored, the negative aspects having been dealt with. This brings the game closer to my original intent, and I believe you will find it more enjoyable.
- Stat gains at level-up have been altered. You will not gain stats faster than before, but every level will result in an increase to one of the four basic stats. No more empty levels! The experience formula after level 31 has also been changed. Now every level after 31 requires the same amount of experience; this will make it easier on players who have reached the end, but are having trouble with the final boss.
- The in-game help files have been updated to match the style of the website. The content of those files have also been updated to match the current version.
- As always, there were bugs to fix. Most notably, several medals, that were not being properly awarded, can now be earned.
That's all I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure I'm missing something. I should take a moment to say that all save-files from previous versions should work with the new version (though your player may actually gain a level or two, and his stats might be higher than when you last played). If you haven't tried Regressia, now is the perfect time to give it a chance. If you've enjoyed Regressia in the past, now is the time to Subscribe and enjoy all the new features. Finally, thank you to everyone who purchased a Regressia subscription and helped to keep me fed and warm. Without your contributions, this update would not have been developed.
Though the update has been play tested, there's nothing like a hive of BYOND players running through a game to bring out the bugs, and I expect this update will have its share of them. Should you find anything, post a report on the forum.
Edit: Also on the website, Andriod Data? ;)
