The G19 is something I already said I've considered, and would probably buy in spite of the price if the key pitch was adequate. Without that information I don't have anything to go on. Lighten up and try something new like you said this isn't the 1980's anymore so you might actually like the newer keyboards. Hence why I'm looking at backlighting and multimedia keys. Five years ago there were a lot better layout and key size choices in most respects, but in the last few years there have been some really weird trends I'm just not on board with. | |
Today I went to another Best Buy. Their demo keyboard selection was atrocious, consisting almost entirely of chiclet keyboards, but they had the Logitech G110 and G510 on hand. I asked about them and one of the employees offered to take one of them out. Since I brought a tape measure, I measured the keys on the G510 and found out the key pitch is in fact 19mm.
The G510 is the little brother of the G19, so it's cheaper, but you can still pick any color for the backlighting you want. It's a win. I am now the owner of a Logitech G510. | |

OCD much? Full key size was one of my major criteria. If the keys are too small it means not only adjusting to a new size but a real possibility I'd have a lot of trouble with it over time. Since I had heard the keys were too small on some of these keyboards I had to make sure this would be adequate. I was happy to learn that was the case. | |

Measuring by eye is a poor substitute. The difference between 18mm and 19mm wouldn't be perceptible by eye without something to compare it to, but it would make a huge difference to my typing.

I have to say, while I make do with the keyboards I have, the keyboard you speak of is perfect... Except that I want it wireless. I also have a very strict idea on the size of my Backspace key... too many ridiculous mistypes with the mini-Backspace and the stupid-sized Enter.

The keyboard I use right now has the Enter key that extends upward where the Backslash should be, making the Backspace and Backslash small keys pushed to the top row. This, coupled with the 2x3 layout has led to many a frustrating time. I also hate the F-Row is formated:
[F1][F2][F3][F4][F5] _ [F6][F7][F8][F9][F10] _ [F11][F12][Print][Scroll][Pause] This keyboard does have a decent amount of hot keys though. Back, Forward, Stop, Refresh, Favorites, Search, Home, E-Mail, Power(useless because I can't use it to turn the computer on), Sleep (useless), Calculator (my favorite), My Computer, Wake Up (useless), Fn (also useless). Mute, Volume Up, Volume Down, Previous, Next, Stop, Open Media Player, and Play/Pause (which is annoying because it doesn't work properly). | |

The standard grouping by 4 for function keys isn't something that should be messed with. And as horrific as the 2x3 layout is, combining that with the old-fangled small backspace is the worst of both worlds. You have my sympathies. This keyboard does have a decent amount of hot keys though. My HP keyboard had sleep keys I never used. Basically the software for that keyboard was so terrible I ended up writing my own keyboard driver to deal with it. Mute, Volume Up, Volume Down, Previous, Next, Stop, Open Media Player, and Play/Pause (which is annoying because it doesn't work properly). I found a handy WinAmp plugin for getting Logitech's media keys to operate it, but failing that I probably could have worked out something with AutoHotKey. | |
