The v1.29 update is ready to go and should be posted on the server sometime today. For quick reference, here are the release notes:

  • Bug Fix: Fixed a graphical glitch with a female warlock icon.
  • Bug Fix: Dodged attacks caused by “Mirage” status were sometimes being registered as 1 damage hits.
  • Bug Fix: Under rare circumstances items could get lost when expiring from the Marketplace.
  • The strength, intelligence and defense stats of almost all monsters has been reduced in order to make the game a bit easier. This includes all bosses and the Shade encounters.
  • The amount of experience required to level up has been greatly reduced for all levels past level 10.
  • The power cap on Wizard and Conjurer elemental spells has been reduced.
  • The power cap on all Heal and Renew spells has been reduced.
  • Mana stealing abilities will now wake sleeping targets.
  • Colosseum battles will now refill the combatant's HP and MP at the beginning of battle.

The drastic change that you'll notice in v1.29 is that the game's difficulty has been toned down quite a bit. My goal with this release is to keep things challenging but remove the potential for frustration in certain areas. Better yet, the big reduction in the experience required to level up will reign in the grindiness of the second half of the game.

I've made these changes based upon my own observations of the community over the course of the past few months - I actually haven't received much feedback on the difficulty. I think that nerfing the PvE difficulty a bit will broaden NEStalgia's appeal to the average player without alienating the hardcore players who have mastered the game. Also, with less grinding required to level up everyone will have more incentive to start additional alternate characters.

Enjoy!

Good move.
Yeah, I like this.
Sounds good. I do have one concern, though. With the spell caps being lowerd for wizards and cojurers, presumably to compensate for the weaker monsters, PvP will suck even more for these casses aginst phyical characters since it doesn't seem physical dmg is being reduced...
Version 1.29 is now live.
