I am currently trying to work on my pixel art so I can prepare for some projects I am thinking about working on. This is a walk cycle I am currently experimenting with. Any C & C would be appreciated.
(edit) Updated: I failed to make the hips move in the previous which looked a little weird.

Change the shape of the feet when they step foward and behind. At the moment seems he is siding his feet.

Yeah, his feet are moving too much. They also look like they're moving by a curve when they should be moving straight back and forth.
His upper-body is also rotating far too much. |
I'd bring the legs in slightly. People look weird when they stand with a beyond-shoulder-width stance regularly, or while walking.
His upper-body is also rotating far too much. I disagree with this 100%. |
When a normal person walks, their upper body does not rotate like that. At all. The movement that happens in real life can't even be portrayed properly in a sprite like this because it's so minute. It looks completely unnatural.
You might walk like that if you're some kind of male model trying to show off your masculinity. Even then, the amount of movement the sprite is doing seems like too much. Get up and walk around naturally yourself and see. |

I would tighten up the legs (which would naturally make the wide swinging walk be different and less out of place), add a bit more of a swing to the hands, and that's about it. My chest does turn from side to side while I walk, because my legs and hips rotate the opposite direction. Ultimate result, hips are rotated slightly in one direction, torso rotated slightly in opposing direction. Other than the hands not swinging as much as mine do, the upper body is very close to how I walk. I would say the leg animation is *far* more out of whack than the upper body. (also, this is assuming I'm walking at a normal, slow pace. If I were speed walking, power walking, or in any kind of hurry, then the movement would be even more exaggerated. ) |
Thank you for all the comments guys. I will be working on it and post an update shortly. I don't have that much time between work and school so I'll try to make it as quickly as possible.

alright so I'm trying to take every idea into consideration.
I have made two different updates: One: Body still "turns" to enhance simulation of shoulder movement. Two: Body no longer turns, Arm shading still shows shoulder movement. as you can see both updates I tightened the legs up a bit and attempted to make it more like he had the off leg lifted instead of "sliding" as before any c & c is greatly appreciated. |

stuff Though I stand by all of my statements regarding natural movements, I will absolutely concede that their suggestions produced a better looking animation IMO. The only thing left that I think could use a bit of attention is the feet, specifically at standing. Perhaps a slight bit less out-toed. |
Hopefully this will be the last one for the south animation. If I finish this I'm not really certain what I will use it for. I might just post it as a free resource. |

more stuff Improving every time. =) IMO this is by far the best variant, and I can't see anything that I would change. Nice work. |
