I've taken up sprite artistry! I recently rethought the storyline to Megaman Files. Katoma, a good friend of mine, as been a great asset in discussing the changes and the new antagonist!
Axl, from the Megaman X series, will be a huge part of the changes. Axl never really got a very big spotlight. Megaman Files makes him the hero I think he deserves to be.
Due to Axl being a big part of Megaman Files, I've begun to sprite him in the Wily Wars style. Seeing that there are no Axl sprites out there in 16-bit, this is a fairly difficult project (needless to say that I have hardly any spriting experience at all).
Regardless, I've picked up pixel artistry pretty quickly despite my red-green colorblindness. I ask around, try to get the colors right, and get them in there. Now I'm sure you're all just dying to see the sprite. Without further adieu, my interpretation of Axl in the Wily Wars style:
So, first off, I'll just state that everything animates well. There's still a lot of work that can be done to improve, though. The running is the most recent of what I've done. It's obvious which is the running. On the top-left is Axl standing straight like a soldier. Next to that, we have Axl in his battle-ready pose holding his gun. Below, I have two shooting poses. One has the gun with a little recoil on it. That one is for his copy shot which allows him to copy robot DNA and change himself into that robot. Funny enough, I managed to perfectly stay within the color limit without even thinking about it. This is most definitely the longest I've ever worked on any sprite-related project.
The next sprite I've worked on is a Sniper Joe, the famous Megaman enemy. The Sniper Joe is the very first armor you get to use in Megaman Files. It's also the weakest. So weak, in fact, that you'll win medals for beating bosses with it.
Now, I was going to use the normal Wily Wars style of Sniper Joe and just make him playable. I did, however, find a custom Sniper Joe in the style of Megaman 7's. It's used in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, and it's excellent! You can find the original here at about the middle of the sprite sheet.
Here is what I did to it:
Looking at the original, you can see that I obviously removed his shield. I also made running poses and climbing poses. Climbing was definitely the hardest to do. It's the most awkward, by far.
Zelda fans! I have something for you too.
Last time I announced that I'm working on Zelda: Shadow of the Triforce again. Well, I have a screenshot to show you all! It's simple, but it gets across the art style to you. It's a custom Link sprite with 16-bit gameboy tiles. Unlike those Megaman sprites, I am not responsible for any of these in any way ^_^

I have little more to disclose on Zelda today. Maybe next time I will get into the storyline -- which is very exciting, I must say!
Until next time! If you have any constructive critique or comments on my sprite work, it's very much welcome! Thanks, everyone!
The graphics that you are displaying right now are VERY appealing to me. bright and recognizable from a distance, but not overpowering with excess brightness and saturation. I'm a big advocate for the belief that graphics don't make the game, but good ones never hurt! ;)
