For those who have missed it, Serial Killer Roguelike was a game displayed to the masses not too long ago. It was a rogue-like, heavily inspired by Dwarf Fortress, where one essentially must live up to his own title of "Serial Killer." Unfortunately, this game was actually a hoax.
But due to the intriguing concept, the folks at bay12 joined together to make this game concept a reality. It astonishes me how quickly they formed and created a new open source project, organized it, and are efficiently working together. But it brings up a question, we are known predominately as a game making community. Would a team project, similar to Crimelike, work on BYOND?
I believe we have enough talent on BYOND to make a great open source project. We first need to propose a simple concept which can be developed further as progress advances, gather a bunch of talent in numerous mediums, give the programmers a certain system to complete, and see how things shape out. Because of the numerous people programming, we would need each system created to be modular, that way it could be simply plugged into the existing game with no consequences. We could also have late night programming sessions on Pirate Pad.
We are a game making community, if the Bay12ers got a project started and organized in merely days, we should be able to accomplish such a task.
PS, this would be a great project for one of the many contest currently being held on BYOND.
