So I recently traded in my iPhone for a Samsung Captivate Android Device and I love it. One of the things Im most excited about it being able to make my own applications (dont have a mac so couldnt for the iPhone).
So to get started and get familiar with the language wanted to make an app before I tried any kinda game. Im having trouble coming up with a good idea.
If there was an app that you wanted to see for either an Android device or the iPhone what would it be?
An idea I was considering was to have a DVD Collection Manager. The app would store a list of all your Movies and be sortable by title, genre, year made. Or you could search for a specific actor and get all the movies you have without him. It would also have a want list for a list of movies you are waiting to come out to buy with release dates. Yay/Nay
Thoughts please

Samsung Captivate and Iphone are both on the same shitty network AT&T Iphone 4 is the second best phone in the world. Samsung Captivate the fifth best phone in the world. Edit - I do like Android but for some Reason I would pick Iphone 4 maybe because Android has half the amount of apps or something. But Blackberry suck shit so that was a bad reference in the top 6 phones in the world their isn't a single blackberry 5 of the phones are android and one of them are IOS aka Iphone. |
Rumors are swirling that Verizon will be selling a better iPhone with a larger screen, and better internal antenna in January of 2011. If that's true I'm doing an early upgrade.
I have an HTC Droid Eris, and it's honestly alright. But I'd much rather prefer an iPhone. The android app market is a joke, along with it's battery life. |

The Android Market isn't a joke it has over 100,000 apps 3 months ago it had only 50,000 apps, Soon the Android Marketplace will have more apps then the app store. |
Yeah while I enjoyed the iPhone and it was a good phone, apple makes everything to difficult and controls stuff too much. While at the moment the market is better for iphone apps with the open source and more availability to developers soon the Android is going to over take iOS...oh wait its already rated above it. Also as far as specs go, it runs just as good and its really a matter of preference as which one you like. The iPhone is overrated in my opinion (like all apple products)

Well let's take your DVD manager idea a step further. Would it be possible to make the application have a "scan" feature that uses the phones's built in system to take a picutre of the barcode, reads it and then automatcially determins what DVD It is and what name and stuff?
I know we have stuff where you can take a picture of a bar code and text it to a number and you get free stuff. We have it at our Wal-Mart all the time. The last promo was for Halo, it had a weird bar-code on a poster and if you took a picture of it and texted it, you got a free wall paper or something. |
As far as Android OS VS the Apple OS, I like the Android OS better, since you can run homebrew without having to hack the OS.

To be honest, you're in for one hell of a treat because Objective-C and Java are significantly more difficult than DM (though that's not saying much).
Have fun with that. |

Ive done programming in other languages and not just DM recently Ive only been using DM cause I like it, and Java isnt that much harder the basic logic on how computer logic works is very similar in all languages Ive tried, there are just syntax and format differences to learn. Also there are game engines being developed that simplify programming |
