I've been a Stargate Fan for awhile now, and I started iconing for a Stargate game a year ago and have since moved on to my own projects and helping out people with iconing.
I'm not too good at movement states right now, but I'm pretty good at making still art. Here are some examples of some work I've done relating to Stargate.
Naked Mob beside one in Jaffa Armor.
Goa'uld Death Glider.

he looks to bulky for the 'stargate' series on a game.. but thats my opinion, other than that it looks good.

My god! Pillow Shading! My eyes. :'(
First, get rid of the pillow shading. >_> Your mob's abs look strange, probably because there's soo much contrast in the details. Your Jaffa Armor... it doesn't look like chainmail. Also, the plates need to be shiny and they need to be thicker down the torso. Your Goa'uld Death Glider is way too small as well. |

He's got some anatomy issues, but I like the fact that he doesn't look like every other base posted here, so that is definitely points in your favor. I'm not a fan of 'pillow shading', though I don't feel the need to go ripping my eyes from their sockets either. :P You should work to pick out muscle groups by lightening or darkening particular pixels or groups of pixels, rather than dropping a smooth gradient in the middle of the area you want to have depth. Check out D4RK3's edit of Robbie's sprite in the Multi-tile base thread. [link]
I like the clothes myself. I've no idea if they look like what they are supposed to, but they look good. Still pillow shaded, but with a proper light source, they'd be real nice. I'm assuming the ship is supposed to be at a different scale. Same thing as the clothes: Nice, but needs a proper light source. It is definitely simpler to draw stuff with the 'pillow shaded' light source, which seems to be somewhere directly between the viewer and the object. But most people don't seem to care for it, and some seem ridiculously virulent in their opposition to it. Keep at it :) |
