I took something great, smashed it to pieces, took the best pieces and made something new. If you wanna do something like that with Star Trek or Highlander or (gah!) DBZ... go ahead. More power to you. If you wanna make "your own [X]"... go ahead... but while you're at it, really make it your own.

Excellent points. I find that I struggle with this any time I create something, whether it's a BYOND game, a piece of music, whatever. I really, really want to make something original, that's all mine, but time and time again I come to the dismal realization that I'm just not a very creative person. Every time I think I'm on to something new and exciting, I realize soon enough that I was just subconsciously (or consciously) copying something else. So, I just add a few things here and there, adding a little bit of my own touch to things.

Una has an extra mode with lots of crazy cards not found in the original. The plan with Dung-Man is to do something similar, adding a whole new mode of play, now that the "classic" mode is close to being complete. But every one of my games closely, if not directly resembles something that already exists. Same can be said of my music. It's depressing sometimes.

Oh well. Not sure where I'm going with this, other than I aspire to be more like you, the DDT, Spuzzum, Skysaw, and others, in my feeble attempts at creativity. Aye, there's the rub. For if I aspire too closely, it's copying all over again and I'm back where I started.

At least I'm aware of the situation. I like to think that sets me a little bit apart from the main DBZ crowd.

As for my original comment, I can only hope that whoever has interest will be pleasantly surprised. To say any more would certainly fulfill the prophecy in the Hub.
I have very little interest in reading about a personal conflict between two folks on the boards. I understand the desire to make the other look bad in front of the BYOND community, hear everyone support you and join in bashing the other person, but it's neither necessary nor particularly interesting for me to read. If you have a conflict with someone, PLEASE try to contact them through email and ask if they are actually trying to steal your graphics/make fun of you/hump your dog before you go on an accusing rampage. Three good reasons not to come here to bash another person:

1. You might be mistaken.

2. Airing your dirty laundry takes up space that could be used for conversations pertinent to someone besides you and your target.

3. It makes you look petty.

Let's not let what could be a great forum degenerate into personal firefights that could have been conducted --or prevented -- through email.

As I've mentioned, I wasted about 20 years of my life trying to be completely original...I couldn't get anything done because every aspect would be shredded in the "originality engine" of my brain.

Now I recognize that true originality tends to just take from so many sources that you can't identify a specific one.

I think Tom's first response to L&D was something like "This is the most original game I've played"...yet really it's just taking from about 5 inspirations (the Matrix being what kicked it off), then adds every twist I could think of.

So yeah, just keep layering in ideas and twisting the ones you have...

Also, someone, maybe Picasso, said: "Good artists plagiarize. Great artists steal."

Excellent points. As distasteful as the original post was, I only exacerbated the situation with my response. Consider the forum as a whole apologized to, on my part.

I can't beleive you actually said such a thing... "like all things good, lesbian"?

Don't even get me started, and don't say things like that, ever.

Since Lexy is a lesbian, it makes sense she would say such a thing.

I'm gay myself, and there are others on the forum...

Well yes Lexy did commit the sin of sweepingness, but I'm not sure that's the sin that Mr. Water was worried about...

I would have never known Deadron was gay if he hadn't told me that one time I said, "That's Gay". Notice ive been very careful not to say that phrase on the forum since then.

However, I wouldn't say all good things are lesbians, because things cant be lesbians. People can be tho. It's like me saying, "That's gay", when "that" cant be gay. Only people can be gay.

Hopefully you don't say it elsewhere either.

Good point.

But to one person who prefers something, that something is their preference and by logic is the best thing to them out of all objects on the planet. Like me... as a white atheist Canadian hormonally-imbalanced teenager, I can easily say that all good things are heterosexual women. Slightly demeaning, yes, and it doesn't reflect my better judgement (I'm very picky about dating, having only been on one date (half-date, actually) and never dating her again), but it is true nonetheless.

(Note that I didn't say anything about bad things. As far as I'm concerned, there aren't any in this situation.)

I dont hang out with any gay people(at least not that I know of), so I say it quite freely when im hanging around with my friends. Its just like one of those phrases that mean something entirely different then what it's supposed to mean. Note, I dont have anything against gay people, its just something I say. However, I do remember one time I was sitting in a restraunt/sports bar type of place that mom and worked and I eventually worked at, and a guy dude came up and hit on me. It was awkward because he was drunk too. He was trying to buy me a drink a crap like that. The really funny thing was that Im not even old enough to drink.

Im the same way when it comes to dating. It gets hard for me cuz the only cute girls who like me are like 2 years younger than me. A lot of my sister's friends want to go out with me. This will prolly come in handy when I get to be 50 or something.

What, are you holding out for one who's five years younger? Jeez, you're a picky one!

First off you are probably wrong about that.

Second off, using racial or otherwise inspired epithets when people of that race/group are not around does not change its meaning.

"I say nigger to my friends because they know it doesn't mean nigger" does not fly well. And in this case, it means that any of your friends who are gay certainly aren't going to tell you about it.

My problem with what she said is that I detest homosexuality. I consider it vile and disgusting, and homosexuals go into my book as morally lower than others.

I beleive in a no-homo world.

You can say NO to homosexuality.
