Has anyone noticed the ridiculous amount of people posting about questions that are surely covered in the material provided for learning the language? People who aren't reading tutorials, and instead of looking for help, they just post on the forum instead. And I mean with simple stuff like why doesn't my icon appear, or how do I slow down movement.
I'd like to see someone start a forum for people who actually know what they're talking about, so it'd be possible to get away from the endless hordes of people who know nothing.
Actually, now that I think of it, there probably is one, which explains why the people who know something don't post nearly as often as the people who don't, and why igorant people post in responce to ignorant people (no names here).
But good grief, I want to see some descussions about something worthwhile! I've been scanning through a bunch of other message boards lately and the byond boards seem to rank highest in immature, rude, and pointless posts. It's pretty rare around here that something pointful gets discussed, and it tends to degrade toward insulting one person's opinion of something. I'd like to see that change.
I should mention that this isn't about newbie bashing, even though some people just plain don't want to learn and prefer to ask everyone else for code. A newbie free area would still be nice. Maybe something that requires your key to exist for a while or something before you can log in.

The point isn't who is or who isn't a newbie, Pyromaniac... it's who is or isn't able to have an intelligent discussion. Being new to BYOND (or new to the world) isn't an excuse for:
"wut iz the flying code n dont tell me to look it up or ask what i mean cuz u all no the flying code n you are all lazy ****ers for not telling it to me" |

Once upon a time, say 6 months ago and before, this was quite an excellent forum for useful posts and minimal immaturity. Unfortunately we've been overwhelmed by other forces, and it's true that some of the people who know a bit about BYOND are now posting less. It's just hard to keep up, and why help people doing the crappy derivative games? However, there will be some fighting back on this front. Stay tuned. |

So true, when I first posted here, I didn't use unreadable or incomprehensible phrases or words to convey my thoughts and ideas. I was not attacked for being a newbie, nor was I degraded or insulted for not knowing the simple basics. Quite the contrary, in fact. People like Spuzzum, Lexy, Deadron and the like were extreemely supportive of my grandiose claims and statements, not becuase they had some sort of prejudice, but becuase I actually could express myself quite well.
If someone finds themselves constantly at odds with the people in the forum, it probably has something to do with their communication skills, or lack thereof. There is no excuse, except maybe that english isn't your native tounge, not to type whole words when trying to express yourself. Using words like c0dez and such is not cool, nor does it win friends or influence people to your side. It just proves o the masses that you are lazy and immature, and lack the nettiquete that is so deperately needed in forums such as this one. If you insist on using your own jaded version of the english or american language to try and covey your ideas, don't be surprised if you are ignored or ridculed for doing so, in fact, expect it. Saying that you have not done well in school is no excuse either. I have not attended school for many years, and in fact have been living on the streets for the past five. If anyone has an excuse for using poor grammer, it is I. ~X |

What really amazes me is how people seem to think that typing out "c0dez" is faster than "codes." |
