Why do all these employers expect all artists to be "Experienced in Photoshop"? That really bugs me. You'd think it'd look better on your resume that you payed much less money for a program that has roughtly the same capabilities.

You'd think it'd look better on your resume that you payed much less money for a program that has roughtly the same capabilities. Because Photoshop has a complicated interface that takes a while to learn, and if that's your house tool you want to know that you aren't going to lose 30% productivity while someone spends months getting to know this complicated tool. It's just like saying they want you to know how to use a particular IDE such as Visual C++. If you don't, they have to spend time showing you how to use it. I've had people try to convince me to hire them for jobs that required OO programming skill because "I can read C and I pick up stuff real fast." Nope, sorry, no matter how much you can read it actual programming requires at least 6 months of banging your head against a wall before you understand how to structure code, and I don't have 6 months to wait for you to do that. All that said, I don't make hiring decisions based on whether writers know complicated writing tools, because I'm usually hiring writers for the long-term, and we have people on staff to help them, and you can usually come up to speed with those tools in a couple of weeks. |

Maybe because these employers think that Photoshop gives a better quality. I use Photoshop, only because I am used to it, if I went to PSP I more or less would be useless at the start. People tend to do better with the surroundings they like to work in, unlike the employers say "You need to be experienced in blah blah blah" reason being: "If your not then I dont want to know you!". These employers suck today more than ever, they should realise a worker works better in his/her own surroundings as to which they are used to, not to what others say they have to work in. -~=Lee=~- ([Edit]I am not being meaningful here, just stating my point ok) |
