They'll forgive you if you don't keep it up. If you do, your post doesn't mean anything.

We have a number of people who got bad starts and turned into productive, liked members of the community. As Foomer says, if you work to interact on a more mature level, everyone will forget about the other stuff and it'll be like it never happened.

Yeah, Deadron is right about that. Really, most of the people on the forums only ask two things: people should take the time to read the instructions and think about things before asking for help, and when people post messages on the forums they should be courteous and patient. Most of the older folks on the forum remember how it was to be a newbie programmer, and how painful it is to want the answer right now when you run into a snag. But the fact is, programming -- even with a friendly language like DM -- is a discipline that requires lots of thought and patience. (That's why programmers usually make a pretty decent wage in the business world.)

I remember reading something about bikers once -- probably just a romantic stereotype, but it stuck with me: "Give them respect, and they'll give it back. Give them crap, and they'll give it back tenfold." Just think of BYOND programmers as a bunch of Hell's Angels, and you should be okay. :)
