Heres some tips for a good game creation while being original:
1.Think of a game or movie (1 or more) that you really like
2.take away all the things you dont like (or leave some)
3.completely change any characters (make new ones)
4.come up with a new story
5.add anything that you would have liked to seen in the game
6.come up with a name that describes your game wihtout saying anything with the original copy
7.come up with major plot developments (if it's a rpg, else cross this out)

Also, there have been many people who have came up with plots for games and put them online for people to use for free. I play Dungeons and Dragons every now and then as a DM and when I can't think of any plots I just go search for DM Plots and then I have enough to keep the game going for a long time. Comming up with an original game shouldn't be a problem since many people will provide you with original material.

Anyone who says they don't have a good imagination is full of nonsense. It's just like saying you can't do something. There is no such thing as that, what you really mean is you wont do something. If you really want to have a good imagination, you can. If you really want to be good at something, you can. You just need to put EFFORT into attaining it.

Along the lines of what Geo was getting to, the best way to make something "original" is to rip off something else and modify it beyond recognition.

Take Chrono Trigger now, we'll start with the main characters:

Crono - Everyone likes punky red-haired sword-wielding fighter types in rpgs. They've been popular for about twenty years, at least. So, just for your sake we'll keep one. This time though, instead of being a skinny, katana wielding lightning kid, he's going to be an armor-clad, longsword wielding paladin named Aeunn. You can change the names to whatever you want.

Marle - Every good RPG has to have a cute girl-type or two. Usually they have something special about them like being a princess in this case, or maybe they have magic powers or are the only ones who can unlock some mystical gate somewhere or something. We'll use the latter idea for this one. Now she's a lightning-wielding maiden in white who, aside from zapping bad guys right and left, seems innocent enough. She's the key to open the mysterious "Gate of Kridan" leading to the unknown worlds beyond. Her name is Aliss.

Lucca - The secondary girl-type, always less cute and innocent and more serious than the first (Rosa/Rydia, Terra/Celes, etc.) For this game, unlile the first girl who wears white this one is going to be wearing black, which shows that she is less cute and innocent and more serious. You can pick whatever specialty about her you want, I don't feel like making one up. Her name is Sarine.

Frog - Classic beast-thingy character. Generally unpopular among "final fantasy" games but commonly found in other RPGs. Lizards are common, so lets turn him into a lizard instead. In fact, now he's a chameleon. Since the name Chameleon is too unoriginal, we'll call him Shifter. Obviously, he is unusually stealthy and quite good at avoiding pretty much anything.

Robo - I never liked robotic characters, they're too inhuman for me. I'm going to replace him with a secondary fighter type instead, since that's basically what he is anyway. Only this guy is human. Sephanon is his name, and he likes to wear black and do his ninja-like skills whenever he gets a chance. He's a big show off, too, especially around girls.

Ayla - Ayla is based off some book about cave-people I read a while ago, so she is unoriginal to begin with and shame on Square for that. Since this game doesn't include time travel, but instead includes world-shifting and dimensional travel, we're going to make her the cute gal who rivals the original cute gal, Aliss, in beauty and cuteness but her differentness due to her origins in another dimension make her unattractive to the other characters, unless you want to throw in a twist. Just remember that the main character always "likes" the primary gal, and can't be permitted to fall for a secondary gal like this one. Her name is Krio, because names in her dimension are different. She's a wimp but has control over some nifty mental powers like telepathy and mind control over mentally-weak beings.

Magus - Magus is the secondary evil character who sometimes ends up being one of the goodguys, sometimes not. It's up to the maker, and the change can happen as late or as early in the game as you want, and sometimes they just plain switch back and forth (Kain, Celes, etc.) In this game, the character is named Delen, and he is from the same dimension as Krio. He is a great master of the elements, and can bend anything in the dimension to do his will. If it suits him enough, he will help the other characters but only if he is getting something substantial out of it. His only limits are the other elemental masters in the dimension, the other three, who prevent him from doing anything he wants.

And there we have it, seven totally new characters who travel through dimensions trying to correct their own as they discover that what happens in other dimensions effects the outcome of happenings in their own. With an accidental opening into a secondary dimension through an ancient temple found in the hero knight's castle's backyard, the discovery of how other dimension effect their own, and the creation of a dimensional-travel machine called the Shadowdancer, they journey on their quest to turn their home dimension into a pieceful world by fixing happenings in other dimensions to make everything work out.

Yeah, well, the rest is up to you because I've got enough silly plots on my hands to worry about already.

Well i would and would not.

As a fan of Akira Toriyama, who created Chrono Trigger. Yes

But as i have never actaully seen the game or any characters in it no, as if it is a success there may be other people trying to achieve that success which would result in Rip Offs.
Gave up on your dwo ripoff I see.
In response to Fader
why is it a ripoff?
every game basically in byond is a ripoff, think of it this was Fader SilkWizard copied Dragon Warrior for NES go bitch at him, maybe Richter copied it for nes to and didnt wanna copy it online have you ever took that into concideration?

Tom333 wrote:

Because it copies something that is copyrighted.

every game basically in byond is a ripoff.

True, and I play none of them, I only play the original ones, have you noticed the original ones are always better than the rip-off ones?
In response to Tom333
Thanx Tom
and yes i did copy it from the nes version and not silks game
Thats why my game is called dragon quest
not dragon warrior
In response to Nadrew
Yeah right Nadrew, first off dwo is the best game on byond (ignore the fact that it is a fan game and just look at the game design, and if you can't admit that it is the best or one of the best then there is something terribly wrong with you) and I've seen you play it before! You're even a moderator on the dwo forums...
In response to Fader
I only play it when I have to talk to someone that's playing, and I'm the moderator of the forum because Silk is my friend, and needed alot of help.
In response to Nadrew
I'm assuming your talking about help moderating, because I've never heard of silk asking anyone for help coding
In response to Fader
Yes, that's what I mean, and I've helped him on the coding end a few times also.

Heh. Where do you think he got his GM abilities? Yours truly. :)

In response to Vortezz
And where did you think he learned how to do levels? MY library.
In response to Nadrew
Ack, everyone wants a stake in him. That's cool though. Did you give him that cool command that turns immature people into children vortezz?
i would i would chrono trig rules. A lot better than all this dbz crap in the hub.

Umm.. Sure. If you want.

Actually, no. I just gave him the basic GM commands with some spiffy interface (yay!) and he built his own custom commands. :)

I really wanna see that command now =)
