Is there there's never anything good to play. I get tired of working on my own stuff once in a while, and whenever I check out games live to see if there's anything decent on, there's never anything but endless DragonballZ-ripoffs, or worse, DragonballZ-ripoff-ripoffs. Nothing good! Although, on occassion there are "little" games like Bombard, Red Cap, and similar things, but there's never anything big to play. Nothing where you can go out and explore the world for miles (in game) around while doing something BESIDES killing endless hordes of the same stupid monsters over and over for no good reason. Which reminds me, I need to make that game.

We need some epic stuff out there! Epic doesn't have to mean big, it can just mean you're able to advance to more interesting things! (Either that, or it comes with an editor.)

Now the big question, do I really know what I'm talking about, or is there just nothing good on the forum or the hub, and I am thereby forced to make my own entertainment?
Kemet is out there almost 24/7 if you like to go exploring mostly-empty lands. I hear FQO may be coming out some time in the nearer future. I've been playing with a very cool myst-esque exploration game idea and, though I have not come very far, I have some nice results. Another of my games, which turns out to be a little bit like Red Cap in that you play a similar scenario over and over (so if you don't like Red Cap, you may be bored by it,) has a very large, totally dynamic map to explore and, if you are so hell-bent, alter. In the mean time, create your own world to explore using TextMUD! It's easy as pie. Later, Foomer.

*shudders* red cap and bombard.......... fear......... AHHH!!!!! *runs away screaming*

*comes back 2 hours later* m-must be safe.... No co-er, let me see another comment in my "Never ending bag of comments +9"!...hmmm..... noodles make blue poodles jump over der stroodle? well.... that was...... poodly-ie, noodle-ie, and stroodle-ie! Well, I'll have to "wing" it. So, you'd like to go around a endless plain with rocks and look around? Hardly I would, throw in some 3d graphics, add dangers like quick sand, cliffs, jungle beasts. Add english accents, hunter caps, elephant guns, shovels, and various equipment. Add wonderful treasures, undescovered places where even beasts such as dinosaurs roam. talk in a good ol' english pub about your explorations, dangers, or form a party to explore and you got yourself a pretty d*mn good game!

I would, but I find BYOND's graphics VERY limiting to the games I have in mind. Honestly, I prefer 3d, and I cant draw good enough for the one space game I was making which is already bigger than just about all other games and it's coding is 5x messier.

That sounds just like FoomerMUD, accept for 3d graphics, elephant guns, and ol' english pubs.

WHAT!??? You guys think I stay up for days at a time just sittin on me bumm??? You guys should really get out more often into the world of Kemet, there have been MAJOR updates and advances to my game since the days I saw either one of you exploring. Though their are hordes of monsters out there, they serve a dual purpose. Makes those who like killing things in game happy, and give the warriors something to do. Also I have lately introduced other elements into my game which requires non-combat ways to exceed. And I've even seen some players highering the Warrior types to defend them while they are doing non-combative actions in the world. Unless you play Kemet and actually get out of the starter city Tanis, and you have something next to your name other than Immigrant or Citizen, then you really can't say anything much about Kemet. Because it shows you haven't explored the game far enough.

I should point out that I found it next to impossible to get out of Tanis, simply because everything wants gold, and lots of it, and even if I answer all of that Trivia Sage's questions correctly, I only get 5 gold. If I gamble that and lose it, I'm screwed.

If there's another way of getting gold aside from killing people (which isn't exactly my idea of a moral way of getting money) it isn't very obvious!

You just walk out (or run before you lose all your money).

Okay, I'll rephrase it... the only way to advance is to get money. =P

Nope, there's a open exit to the south, I've left it with 0 gold.

I never said exit, I said advance... as in, achieve character development.

That last line isn't exactly the problem. There are plenty of ways in Kemet to get gold, but few if any of them are "obvious" ways. Killing things, is, on the other hand, always an obvious way to get gold, for some reason.

There are plenty of trade routes in Kemet, and people willing to buy certain items for you that can be purchased in another city. Most of the time it's just figuring out how to get the item, and then figuring out where to sell it. There aren't really any instructions for this, you just have to explore...

Personally, I think the game would be well served in an immigration officer or something who will instruct you as to where to begin making your living in the world.

I think adding combat to the game the way it is now (or last I saw) was a bad idea. Although, for some reason LJR seems to want to draw that crowd.

Well, It's not big, It doesnt have stuff like partying or major fighting, But It's the best you can get for Role Playing. It doesnt have the greatest graphics (to be true to what it's base off of) It's Dragon Warrior Online Chatroom, I know it may seem like something easy to pass on by but give it a try. Before we start the role playing we set up, Like the Bar owner will hire waiters and bartenders and cooks, While Town Hall will take secretaries and police officers. There are lands where you can farm and there is a church where you can uy healing herbs and things. Before every roleplaying session a GM sets up a construction business and takes clients. With them you build your own house or business. The limits are very far with that as you can build in the underground caverns, The evil castle, the town, and up in Sky World. There is a battle system in which you canfight in a battle arena or when when Battle Mode is engaged you can fight everywhere. If you have a house built why not stop at the local pet store and buy a pet for your house. You can name him, he will belong to you and he fights other monsters and people when battle mode is engaged. You can get such animals as Cats Dogs, Blood Hounds, Lizards, Blod Lizards, Slimes (all colors), Snail slimes, Manowars. Now, if you need a plot every once in a while the GM's figure something out and go along with it, To show you what I mean i will give an example, :

One day a bunch of different colored slimes started appearing everywhere and the mayor sent out the order for everybody to stay inside or be arrested. At 1:00 PM sharp Battle Mode was engaged and everybody was roleplaying and saying things like " The slimes look like they are getting angrier ". At 2:00 pm the announcement was made to go out and fight for our lives because the slimes were attacking so everybody ran out and started fghting we cleared out all the buildings so we could ret if needed and soon the town was clear we all went to the bar for free food when we all got an announcement that the slimes were filling the cavern so we went down and many of us died but we managed to clear it out while we chased the slime groups all around town and we had finally killed them all and when we came back to surface we noticed a new building so we tried to open the door but it was locked and about 5-6 hours (game hours) later The master slime made a world announcement that went something like this " You got my weak groups but you will never gt my headquaters " so naturally we wnt into the building that was built in sky world like it was in levels. as each room we progressed into, had stronger monsters and on the last boss the Hero of it all (Dark Link who created the game) died and quit. so we made a little shrine and had a big funeral with the preist, had somebody come and speak and right smack in the middle of his speaking the portal opened up on the alter and out came a guy called ghost who looked like Dark Link. He gave a little speech and took us down to the gym which had a fenced area filled with about 600-700 slimes and he said there was only one way to get rid of them and about 35 portals opened and sucked am all in and tadaaa it was over and there was a big party and the role playing went on.

Now that sounds like fun? Come join us! its always fun and updated almost every day. wow that was big.....

Yeah, but you're posted an add for a DragonWarrior game in responce to spuzzum's having difficulty advancing his character in Kemet.

Yea i guess it was in the wrong place but on thre right thread, sorry

Oh those poor souls who lack imagination..
Of course there is silly!!! There are items scattered through out the world map, you can just explore around, dodging the rats and crocs. Also lately big hunting parties have started picking up a group of people and hitting the new hot spots, "The Mines" & "The Jungle" these are in-game known places. Normally because I can't carry everything I'll bring a newbie along to help me carry my stuff. Ask someone if they can give you a job. With a Dig skill of 1, and a digging tool, you could go get mud for Brickmakers who normally don't want to do this task and may pay you. The game is detailed, more than than the old kill and Sage and gamble to make gold days. Once you get enough skills for a profession, making gold gets easier. You can just fish your way to success on the piers of Tamit. Explore, read the help webpage. And I haven't even told anyone of the research behind the scene I've been doing on actual herbs and plants in Ancient Egpyt that were used, and what I have planned for their uses and combinations to make rememdies -> potions -> cooking herbs.

Got questions?? Post a comment on the Message Boards thats what they are there for. Use them. Organize a time to meet people in the game. Kemet is not just another BYOND game, I hope that it becomes a thriving community as well. More and more items and stuff being added daily so always something new.

oh, I thought the big problem was the lack of graphics, and how it is allmost always tile-based and you have to code-attach together mobs and no option to make 3d games and also the annyoing hub interface with the chat/browser and the panel to the right usually used to talk.

I have no clue as to what you are refering to here, unless you are commenting on the lack of artistic ability in the comunity. If you can't draw, hire someone who can. As for me, I have no lack of graphics problems....

and how it is allmost always tile-based

Only becuase people assume that their games must be tile-based. There is no reason that you have to stick with the standard 32x32 tiles when creating your games. People have done some very interesting things that go beyond 32x32 tiles. Look at Dragonsnot, if you need an example....

and you have to code-attach together mobs

So? And who says you need to use mobs? objs can be strung together to make multi-tiled graphics, as can atoms. Your only limited by your imagination and ingenuity....

and no option to make 3d games

What's so great about 3D games? I can't think of any 3D game that can't be made to work, and be just as entertaining in 2D. Also, you can do 3D graphics in BYOND, it's just noone has, yet....

and also the annyoing hub interface with the chat/browser and the panel to the right usually used to talk.

Annoying? Well, how many people would be playing your games if they weren't advertised for you by Dantom in the Hub? Everytime someone plays a game on BYOND, you're getting FREE advertising on the hub. How is that a bad thing?

I can't imagine what you find annoying about the current layout, it provides such a powerful set of tools, alot of developers would probably take up their sword and hunt Dantom down like dogs if they ever removed them.... (not that I would, mind you, Tom.. scary.... :::hides:::)

Basicly, I find no validity in your complaints. If you think BYOND is too combersome to weild, find another tool. I, personally, don't see fualt in it. On the contrary, I think it's a wonderfly simple, yet powerful game creation tool that has no equal in the universe! Dantom Rulez!

the lack of graphics

Diablo II and Starcraft are 2D and only 640 x 480 resolution. Even when they were first released, these were substandard graphics. The Byond map offers up to 672 x 672 (possibly more in the future.)

it is allmost always tile-based

That isn't as great a limitation as you think. many multi-tile projects are in the works, but there are also several subtile systems, like the maps in Incursion, the text in sd_Text and MapText, and others.

and you have to code-attach together mobs

You have to code evertyhing special you want your game to do. It's a programming language.

no option to make 3d games

BYOND includes support for 3 dimensions. Atoms have x, y, and z coordinates built right in. Few BYONDers who have the skill to pull off advanced 3D systems have any desire to make a 3D game.

the annyoing hub interface with the chat/browser

The games work fine without the hub. The hub just gives players a central place to go to find other games.

You don't have to use the browser in your games, but it is a very powerful feature if used properly.

the panel to the right usually used to talk.

It doesn't have to be. sd_Text in particular offers several options to display map based output. Players need never use the chat window.

Your complaints aren't limits of the system, they are limits of the people using the system. A sufficiently skilled programmer can overcome each of them. If you want a totally map based 672 x 672 resolution 3D game with multi-sub-tile mobs, all you have to do is write it.

I must concede that no one will be writing a 360 degree 3 axis first person shooter with BYOND, but anyone who sees limits in BYOND that don't exist probably couldn't write it in C++ either. Be imaginative and find creative ways to overcome the percieved limits.
