I prefer to believe in God because I don't want to believe in dissapearing into space and time when I die. Or worse, being stuck to walk around having nobody hear you or see you and being duct into a lonely eternity. I rather believe that when you die, the one place you'v always wanted to live at/go will become open to you for you to have fun and what not for the rest of your existence. Also, your able to go into a huge linking room which lets you go into other peoples favorite places and you can just exist in peace and without worries for eternity.(All this that I explained is created by God hopefully, if he exists) Of course this all has to do with life after death, thats the only reason I have a religion.

In theory your death goes to something greater, new life, you decompose, make fertilizer, which grows grass and start the circle of life for another unless of course your burned then you really have no point byond death.

Why would that set them off? All your doing is flipping a bunch of binary switches off and on, you aren't really creating anything (in a corporeal sense), just modifying.

Actually, in Luke 19:27 Jesus was talking about his enemies, not all unbelievers(I pulled out my Bible for this). "Now as for those enemies of mine who rejected me and hated me, bring them here and slay them before me." Also, it didn't actually happen, it was about what would happen, the earlier part of it was a parable about having material objects, just to be taken away in death. When he said to slay his enemies, he ment send them to hell, this guy just took it literally, so basically this was all talk about judgement and loss. When he steals the Colt it was one nobody who had ever sat on, representing a virgin while he rode into heaven, aka the slope of the Mount of Olives, also the owners knew he needed it, when they ask his disciples why they are untieing their colt, the disciples said "The Master is in need of it.", and the owner of the colt let them go. Mathew 10:34, yet another misread parable(I swear, this guy read them taking ALL of them literally then again, I could be interpreting them incorrectly also.). Further on Jesus says, "A man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter in law against her mother in law, and ones enemies will be those of his household." Jesus was talking about division among one another the against part was about the original beloved angel who turned into Satan who is against God, who loved him in human terms "like a son" until Jesus came into the picture. So there for sense Satan was divided from God, all who "go against" God will be divided from love, and eternal joy.(AKA going to hell) And it doesn't say anything about him only coming to help Israelites, it only talks about Israels belief of the Messiah. "Do not think I have come to bring peace upon earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword." this was to rule out all wickedness from earth since evil never learns and wont stop until its dead this was the absolute belief system in that time period formed by the Israelites and followed by the early Catholic Church. Maybe this will clear this up for you, or make it worse....

Sure you can, that probably shows he doesn't have as much "devine respect" for god as you do, or maybe he doesn't believe in god, period.

Well I know it doesn't support the New Testament because the New Testament was written after the Dead Sea Scrolls were (or at least most of it was, I'm not really sure of the dates exactly).
Although they may not be complete, the portions that were intact were the same as our current versions (with the exception of "Chief Jailor" changed to "Warden" and such things) so that would suggest there was no tampering or misinterpretations (during the actual translations). Of course there could have been tamperings in sections not included but if the integrity of those parts have been maintained then it supports the idea that the rest has been equally maintained. Supports, not proves. Yes, there were many opportunities for misinterpretation but they apparently didn't happen. That at least says that it is a special document of some sort, it doesn't prove God exists or that the Bible is right but it is amazing none the less. (I didn't take offense ;), Lexy seems to be one of the few that can do that to me, although usually its from me misunderstanding what she says. I seem to have a hard time telling what to take as implied, tell when she is making a joke, and tell when she is being serious.) |

God created us with free will, if he took that away from us we wouldn't be human anymore, the only way he could stop a war is by taking our free will away.

Thats right on the spot in my opinion, I mean if people want to be babysitted then they gotta give up their thinking privledages which would make them less then human, then there would be those people who start hunting babysitted ex-humans =).
<<>>Semaj<<>> Be vewy vewy quiet, I'm hunting 35 year old non-thinking wannabe humans. |

Truthfully, I don't trust the bible but I like trying to converse about it ;). It has been through so many versions which have been changed over and over, you don't know whats real and whats not. Sometimes it feels like your reading Care Bears, but then it turns into a slaughter fest when somebody screams, "God sucks!". Oh yea, and they wont know that Moby Dick has anything to do with a fish when I finish my master plan, the Ectrofragger Fish Stick Cannon!

And an over-powered being with an army of celestial warriors who is a pacifist which breathed life into a chunk of mud isn't ridiculous? I mean, make your own theories, like God clapped and it made a big bang which created life, oh wait, you think the big bang is ridiculous. The big bang theory could be the explanation of God, it creates life and destroys it. In Hyperspace, Michio Kaku wrote about how we would end if we existed up to a class 3 civilization(The civilied peak of everything), the sun would erupt and be at such a high level of energy that it would suck itself inside out into a tiny ball which would start consuming empty space - what is not there, it would expand till it reached something solid, or what is there and then it would explode and destroy everything, humans, animals, almost all bacteria and viruses(Thats if we were still alive after the sun was destroyed), then the energy would leave shards which would start changing into life and the pieces of planets will collide forming another planet, able to sustain a new type life without air or any needs of temperature until evolution reaches a peak for the new species, by then it should be in an orbit and gravity is succeeding. The lifeforms will use the minerals(soil, dirt) to survive, remind you of something, maybe like Adam made of mud? So therefore the big bang theory creates and takes away life.

Well then, maybe the Greek mythology of each planet repersenting a god was more closer then most think. And who is to say there isnt more then one god? I'm just about done trying to talk to you... this philosophy is so ridiculous that it's... well, beyond ridiculous. The sun is a sun. The planet is a planet. We couldn't survive without them, yes. We never would've arisen without them, yes. They are not, however, gods. If they are, then everything is a god, and the word "god" itself loses all meaning. My fingernails are god, in that they support a wide variety of lifeforms. I am a god, in that periodically I destroy the life that my fingernails have nurtured through the wrath of my antibacterial soap. I'm a god, you're a god, wouldn't you like to be a god, too? Again, the planet-as-god thing works just fine as a metaphor... but as theology or philosophy, it sucks. |
Personally, I think this was a bad issue to bring up. Throughout history it has been made very clear that religion has been the cause of many large conflicts. I don't think, after seeing the way many people here react to things, that this can be a thread without flames. Anyway, that is just my opinion. I'm not going to comment anymore on this because I think it's clogged the forum enough. I mean, reply if you want, but don't expect me to say anything else.

Why not? Programming, at least, video game/simulation programming, is designed to model different aspects of reality and nature... to construct a little micro-universe, as it were. In trying to model forces like gravity, friction, etc., we gain insight into the actions and interactions of such things in the real world... it seems to me it would be inevitable that when you create a world and run it, if you keep an open mind while doing so, you will learn a little something about the nature of God.
And by the way, you just proved his point. It DID drive you nuts. |
