My Windows XP professional sucks. It takes at least 3 reboots for it to start up right. And it doesn't shut down. It just reboots. What the fizzie is up with that?
XP has my vote for "The Most Annoying OS Ever" award. It'll randomly delete my Network Connections, and I have to manually re-add them. Then, when I go to start up, it -always- seems to want to check my hard drives. No matter how I shut it down, it wants to check them upon booting. Then, it'll randomly reboot a few seconds after I actually get to the desktop. On top of that, I usually get a blue-screen-of-death if I wait too long before logging in. Damn communistic Windows XP. (Note: I do not have any viruses at this time, so it seems to be the ever so evil XP at work.)

But you are missing the point, XP looks prettier :P

I am perfectly happy with Windows 2000. I don't do much with my comp, sadly I just sit in my room and make games for BYOND. But it works fine for doing that.

holy hell, jesus, i wish i had more windows problems. I feel left out. I've never had a problem with xp or any other windows version, other than the minor freeze up once a month.

Same here, I don't have any viruses.

Windows XP -is- a virus, my friend. By the way, I heard a good oxymoron today. Microsoft Works.

Nope, you aren't alone. I did a recovery on my computer about 3 weeks ago on my computer to get rid of the junk, then upgraded to XP. My computer has not crashed, frozen, kicked me off(amazing because I have AOL), or slowed down since. Before that it would freeze twice a day and slow down all the time.

LOL!!! Good one.
Personally, I like Windows XP. It has a damn nice inference (Gotta love that blue!), it doesn't crash as often as '98. So, if you have XP, pat yourself on the back.

I tried Windows XP on my old computer, and had tons of problems, I ended up switching back to Win98 (which has never given me a problem..). I suggest finding an old Windows98-SE CD/disk and using it.

Not to rub it in your face, but....oh, what the heck - I'll rub it in your face:

Weren't you the one to say you should use your computer as a BYOND game host (for HrH, etc.)? If you are having these problems, no-one will touch you with a ten-meter pole - your system is too un-reliable.

Ragging on Sariat aside, =p, I found that if you keep up-to-date with the Windows updates from M$ (the ones you can automatically get over the internet, you have fewer problems and a far more stable system. We have WinXP home and WinXP Pro in-house here, and they both sucked until I installed all the needed updates (about 16MB worth if I recall). After that, both systems ran almost flawlessly (my complaints focus on interface inconsistencies). Daniel has no trouble playing GTA3, B&W, Syberia, Dungeon Siege, etc., and I can run my WinXP Pro latop as a router, mini-firewall/file server.

Ha! The problem you have here is your RAM.

With Windows XP, upon starting your computer it eats a hell of a lot of RAM. I know this because I have Windows XP myself.

I also have a nifty little program to 'Free' RAM which is a great program to have, especially with XP. If you want this, I will surely send it to you.

Only thing is though, when I start my computer, I leave it for about 2-5 minutes so that my RAM which was more or less drained, so the computer itself can work to its natural state. After this I use the program to free RAM.

My computer gets to work fine once 80Meg of RAM is free, the computer feels slow though, and when I use the RAM freeing program *kapush!* I have over 60% RAM free. (Percentage is what the program is mainly used in, but it tells you how much RAM you have free and what your maximum is.)

I currently have 256Meg RAM, I wouldn't mind more though :P

The only trouble that occurs is when I start up the computer (for the first time that day (or in a while)) and when I 'Shut Down'. Nothing else happens inbetween.

And yes, I'd make a damn good host for any huge game.

I heard about this on tech tv, its a common windows XP problem, mostly in lap tops though. Anyways, try www.techtv.com and look for something on this subject, they had ways to fix it. I cant remeber them because i have no problem with it at all, so i didnt care to remeber.

wow im glad i never jumped on that band wagon, you shouldnt have to use some stupid ram program, the operating system should handle the memory fine, and apparently microsoft feels the need to increase ram prices with requiring more ram for windows operating pc's.

chuckle chuckle mr bill gates.

I have no problems with it at all ether. In fact it has proven time and time again to work better than **any** other windows OS. I think what everyones main problem is is that there computer was built for win9x or me/2000. In this case your computer is not configured the the specs of winXP, although it will run, it wont run like it should. One major diffrence is that winXP is run off of dos and lunix, not just dos like all the other windows. Just some info for all of you out there.

You should if you want the best performance from a server - the more memory the better, and running a ram-disk makes drive operations runn at memory speeds.

prices with requiring more ram for windows

huh? Microsoft does not do anything about the price of RAM chips. If anything, RAM is dropping in price each year. M$ OSes just run better on lots of RAM (minimum 192MB it now seems)
