This is an issue I have been thinking about for a very long time. What would a BYOND standalone program be? It would be a file (or files) capable of beings installed and run without the use of Dreamseeker. There are many advantages AND disadvantages of a standalone BYOND. First of all, this would open a WHOLE new market for BYOND; the possibilities would be literally endless. The target market could now include the people that have limited computer skills. It is always hard for a coder to direct a new users through the setup process of YOUR game. They must install a number of files, setup and account, download the game and so on... A drawback is people would sometimes be disinclined to setup an account if the game comes "play-ready..." So I thought about many advertisements for BYOND in the standalone verison; and I mean MANy, maybe along the lines of,...

"Tired of these annoying ads? Signup for a FREE BYOND account and get rid of them!"

And such as that,... New consumers would be drawn in from the appeal of an "easier way to BYOND." The standalone game could only run with a "Guest" or "Temporary" account, so players are almost forced to register. I've noticed that coders are often hesitent to start a big-time game because the customer limitations - they might want to even sell their game on a CD, who knows the possibilities? That's why I suggest taking this suggestion seriously, and maybe discuss it abit more... Thank you for your time, and please feel free to leave any constructive feedback..

I must agree, i refuse to do any BIG project, because there isn't to many people on BYOND. For the ones that are, there all DBZ Game players, and the ones that arn't play Lexy's games.

Exactly; Oh, and Dantom, think of all the money you'll get from all the new people..... ^_^

Technically they won't get no money. All that people are doing is depositing money into there accounts. But, they get money when you withdraw.

What was so harsh about that?

Nevermind, forget it - Let's try to keep this forum topic around it's original idea :)

By doing a big project you can attract people of the type that like that kind of game. This is how I assume all the DBZers started flocking around BYOND.

The entertaining footnotes are worth the price of the book.

Gather round, children.. it's time for a story:

(In refence to mob.sight) "Don't get too attached to the specifics of this variable. Tom doesn't like it, and I have a feeling he mage stage another insurrection to squelch it. That heartless demagogue! Why, without him, DM would still be a nice simple assembly language."

"Yes, I know the plural of datum is data. But that doesn't rhyme with atoms. In programming, poetic concerns outweight linguistic trifles."

"However, realism (in my opinion) is much overrated. Don't let it spoil a good piece of code unless you really have to. I am sure there are many cases in which our own universe is to unrealistic because God couldn't resist a simpler way of implementing things here and there. The sky is a perfect example. I mean, it looks a bit fake sometimes, doesn't it?"

And such hilarious notes as:
"The numerical limits are those of a single-precision IEEE floating point value, in case you were wondering"

But that's enough! Buy the book! (especially since you can see my all-powerful name in the acknowledgements)
