For all you hardcore video gamers I have a question I need answered: What main character from any video game can defeat Dante (main char from Devil May Cry on PS2) in a fight?

I need the character, name of the game, and what system the game is on. I also need a little bit of info on what this character can do.

I'll explain why I need to know little later on.

Crimson
Sephiroth, Final Fantasy 7, Playstation. No questions asked.
DJ Professor K, Jet set radoi future, Xbox
this guy can mix beats like you wouldnt believe, hes fiunky and spunky, and can ryhme all the time. You better agree those devils may die
Goku.
Mike Dikka with a baseball bat would be an instant win, hands down.(Ok, so he isn't a video game character, but he's the next best thing to the best thing in the world! Eek, need to lay off SNL episodes.)
I would have to say there are a lot of characters that could beat Dante, heck Dante isn't even that strong of a character! Lets see, just about every Resident Evil boss, Superman(Yes he has been a video game character), Boogerman(Uses his amazing snot output to battle crime.), Captain America, every other superhero just about, Vampire Hunter D, just about everyone from Castelvania, Link, almost any main character from the final fantasy series, maybe even Mario and friends, and enemies, and lots lots more.(Just about every character listed is either from Snes, N64, and Playstation.)

My sentiments exactly...

I've never even played Devil May Cry, but judging by the fact that very few beings in the universe of fiction stand a chance against the boys from DBZ, I think it's safe to assume that this guy would fall...

I mean, the Saiyans posess enough power to destroy entire planets with a simple blast of energy from an outstretched finger... And that's early in the series! Their power is a million-fold what that was by the end of it all...

I believe there are a few other nigh-onmipotent characters in fiction that could defeat the Z fighters, but the average Gods, Demi-Gods, Superheroes and Supervillians are just no match...let alone the multitude of human beings... Superman himself would get squashed by Goku... (all Superman fans do not need to remind me of "Pre-Crisis Supes"... I've been through that argument more times than I can remember...lol)

Of course, I'm not sure where this Dante stands on the universal scale of power... But the odds are that he's on a lower rung than the boys from DBZ...

And magic mushrooms...
Blinx...he can play with time and ressurect himself if killed...and just beat him some more
Goku ^_^. He can turn in a Super Saiyan 4 and do some cool stuff. He is from the Playstation game: DBZ Final Bout

Startrek's own Q could kick the entire Saiian Race's ass if he had a mind to. Of course, according to his character, he'd never do that... but he could, which is my point.

Which is why I mentioned that there are a few omnipotent beings in fiction that would be able to do it... These are pretty much comprised solely of the ones that have control over reality... There are a few DC or Marvel characters like this, too, that could do so...

But outside of this category, the Saiyans rule over basically all others...

Heh how do you know the scale of everything? For all you know they could all be really tiny things fighting on space dust :).

Fact is, if they ever wrote a Superman vs. DBZ story... Superman would win, no matter who he was fighting or from what saga. Including these "saiyans." No, he doesn't have as much power, but heroes... real heroes... are always portrayed fighting against better odds and winning. That requires a certain amount of creativity when writing for someone like Superman... usually the odds he faces have to do more with the circumstances he faces than the opponent(s).

In the reality of a story, Superman couldn't be defeated by the Saiyans, except temporarily. It's the same argument as the Predator vs. Federation thread. The Predators never get to win except when they're fighting something less sympathetic than themselves... they're not allowed to. Poorly drawn, overly arrogant aliens who have great powers for no particular reason are not allowed to beat Superman.

Dragonball Z is about pointless power. You can (and probably will) go on and on about morals and philosophy, but if that's the case then why does it always come back to who's the strongest, who can destroy how many planets, etc.? It's about pointless power. People die, but they come back from the dead, and even while they're dead, they're still part of the action because the afterlife is just full of more opponents to beat. There's no irrevocable consequences of anything. You can (and probably will) say "that's the point, it's wish fulfillment"... but that's beside the point. All stories are wish fulfillment. There's such a thing, though, as quality of a fantasy.

Saiyans are powerful, but they're not necessarily better than anyone you could be without fantasy. Superman inspires people to be better, and not because of his powers.

If you're going to wish for something, wish for something with a point.

You're assuming that Superman would be the "hero" of the story...

Goku is just as much of a hero that Superman ever was/is/will be...

So it all depends on who writes the story on who will get the hero curve...

But you're definitely right that DBZ is mostly about pointless power... That's what draws so many of us to it... It's simple and fun... A fantasy...

"Quality" of fantasy is in the eye of the beholder... I personally am not after complex emotional struggles and deep philosophical/moral issues in fantasy/fiction...

I much prefer the simple, straightforward, good vs evil, save the day type stuff... And DBZ has that in spades... Sure, it's extremely shallow, but that's what I like about it...

And who's to say that Goku doesn't inspire fans to be better? I see him as an excellent role model... He contains the power to destroy everything he sees... Yet he remains a force of pure good, only using his powers to stop the bad guys... In fact, I don't think it would ever even cross his mind to be otherwise... He has no self-serivng ambitions (other than the drive to always become stronger)... The ultimate hero...

I will concede that the poignancy of death (and ultimately all consequences) becomes rather moot... But again, that's another aspect of the story that I enjoy... It simplifies things even further... It removes unnecessary emotion from the story...lol

The same reasons that you dislike DBZ seem to be the same reasons I like it... It's all a matter of personal taste... You can (and probably will) say that "I guess some just have better taste than others"...but that in itself is an opinion based on your own taste...

That's why I like DB/GT both more than DBZ, they're both less about the power, and more about the quests.
