What up everybody? The name is Cable, and as you might have guessed I am new around here. I have been playing BYOND games since some-time back in December at a friends house, or when I got a spare moment at school, but never really checked out the site. I am really interested in making a game ASAP. From what I've seen, it shouldn't be too hard. I study HTML in school, and I see alot of similarities with this BYOND language.
Well, thats all I gotta say for the moment. Anybody else live in New York though?

Yo, whats up Cable. I'm from the Big Apple too, Da' Bronx to be exact. But welcome to BYOND. Ya said ya wanted to start making games, but from what I have seen, most of the "newbies" make demos first to help their understanding of making BYOND programs and to get used to DM. But, thats just them, you may be different and rather go right into the heat but, thats on you. Here's a lil tip though: Go with an original topic.

I wouldn't recommend making a demo about something before you properly understand about it - the reason being, if your demo doesn't work 100% then others will pick up on bad habits and copy faulty code into their games, and then come to the forums complaining it doesn't work. I started out by making a game which I worked on for a month or two and then abandoned. (I didn't delete it, because at that point it was quite useful as a sort of "reference", when I couldn't remember how to do something.) I never had much expectation of releasing it, because experience had taught me that the first game I make in programming language or game creation system is always, in a word, crap. That way, I could learn but not pass on faulty habits and methods to others. :-) |
