Byond does not need a 3d engine, if you want a 3d engine, you can build one yourself and/or find one that does it all for you.
Its tilebased at heart, and thus will end up staying tile based.
I certainly would consider paying for DreamMaker - most other successful development systems do the same. DreamSeeker and DreamDaemon should remain free though...
Dareb wrote: Perhaps a little trick to have BYOND for PS2 Actually, this has high merit - since there are projects for running Linux on PS/2 and xBox (xBox can run Mandrake 9 now), and Linux can run Windows programs via emulators and virtual machines. It stands to reason that BYOND can (and should to some extent) promote itself on gaming consoles, once alternative OSs are commonplace in that market. |
Hey! Funny you posted... I was just wondering this morning if you were still active in the BYOND world. I think something made me think of Kemet and I realized I hadn't tried it in a while.
As for your post, I think that BYOND should go to a 3D engine too. But I also think Dantom should give me a million dollars. Neither one's going to happen until Dantom gets rich first, though! :) |
Im making a DBZ game so automaticly I wouldnt want to pay? And im the bad part of the community?
About the pay for byond: I think that a lot of people would pay for byond that have already used it for a long time, but I also think that the new users coming in to byond would fall to the point of byond being dead eventually. |
I definately would pay if and only if Dantom erased the HUB, and only allowed members of BYOND to play the games/make the games. That would filter out all of those "little immature kids."
|
BYOND now has a bunch of rips and generic 2d rpgs and other pointless games. If BYOND went 3d, the games would still be just as generic and pointless, they'd just be 3d instead. The benefits of the 3d engine would depend on how good the engine is. If you're just talking about Wolfenstein 3d quality, then its not worth it.

Those "little immature kids" are also members of BYOND, in case you hadn't realised! I assume you mean paying members of BYOND. This wouldn't neccessarily get rid of all those "little immature kids" - some of them would have rich parents who'd pay for them. The reverse is also true; I'm sure there are a large number of mature BYONDers who don't have very much money to spare - I know I don't. I'm dead against erasing the HUB. Certain parts of it, maybe, but the whole HUB? Overkill if you ask me. :-) |
I think BYOND should go to a 3D engine if they want to charge for it.
