That's right folks! Iowa. Why? Who knows. It seemed like a nice place, and, aside from the blistering cold, it's not all that bad. The bus trip here was fairly uneventful. I didn't lose any luggage, and none of the busses had any major problems. The scenery was spectacular, and seeing some of the big cities along the way was very kewl.
I got to see Pittsburgh, PA, Harrisburgh, PA, Cleveland, OH, Chicago, IL, and am currently residing in Des Moines, IA. Right now I'm taking a short break from job hunting to let you all now how things are going, and after lunch, it's back to beating the streets. I should be able to land a decent job shortly. Then I plan to shack up in a nice hole in the wall, save up for a car and computer, and hopefully get back online soon.
So, anyone here from Iowa? How do you like it? Any interesting things you could say about it? How about some of the places I traveled through? Well, Gots ta go! L8tz!

I work seven miles south of Cleveland. Were the people friendly to you? If not, I'll go rough them up and teach them some manners. *is reminded of Mr. Deeds* |
Hey, it's a mere six-hour drive south to come visit me in Missouri :-)

Des Moines has got some awesome shopping spots and a not bad clubbing scene. There's also a great mall somewhere vaguely near Davenport, Iowa, but I don't remember exactly where it is or what it's called. If you ever find yourself in the position to partake of a romantically inclined evening, about 40 minutes north of West Des Moines is the town of Boone, which features a dinner train that runs through the aptly named Scenic Valley. I'd recommend waiting until you've got another couple to double date with, because due to space constraints they tend to seat parties of two together. If you're ever in Iowa City, look for a comic book store that's in the downtown area kind of near the University of Iowa campus. Casinos (along with the attendant shows and generously appointed buffets) cluster on the western edge of Iowa, where they can take advantage of us poor dumb Nebraskaners. The Iowa/Nebraska border's not bad for shopping either, particularly in the Omaha and Council Bluffs area, where shopping malls are projected to outnumber people by the year 2012.

I'll have to check some of those places out. Right now I'm more inclined to find employment and a decent apartment. The job hunt is going well, I have quite a few leads already. I should have something within a week.
It's very cold here today. The wind chill factor brought the temp down to about -8°F and I had to walk a few miles this morning to an apointment. My face didn't work very well when I got there. Strangely enough, though, it doesn't feel as cold here as it did in Scranton, PA. ~X |
Yep. I'm not sure when I'll be there, as I want to get some things in order while I'm here in Des Moines, but it shouldn't be too long now. Riding the bus across the country is ok, but I'd rather have my own wheels.

I slept most of the time I was passing through Ohio, so I missed the nuclear plant. The people didn't really talk to me while I was in the station, so I guess they were nice enough. The people here are very nice. I bought some sweets in a small bakery store a few days ago, and the old lady threw in two loafs of bread for free. She insisted we take them before they go bad. We fed them to the squirrels, who have a strange red coat. I'm used to seeing them in black and grey. Curious how things differ from place to place.

It does get waaay too hot in the summer. As this is a trait Iowa shares with everything south of Canada (and probably some places there, too), though, I think one just has to learn to accept it as the price of civilization.

I already have a nice place for you to stay ::cough::floor::cough::, and getting a job here won't be hard =D.

If you saw nuclear plant cooling towers in Harrisburg, that was Three Mile Island.
