I heard a rumor... or rather a fact, that some day Humans will be able to clone ancient pre-historic animals like the Sabertooth tiger and Wooly Mammoth and let them roam the earth once again. What do you think of this?
Only if you believe Jurrasic Park.
There are some good points and bad about this. A Good point is you are introducing new spiecies to the enviroment making the ecosystems more stable. Bad thing is can they be controlled or will they TAKE OVER THE HUMAN RACE AND MAKE US SLAVES IN THEIR WORLD AND MAKE US GO IN ZOOS.

It would kinda be like PLANET OF THE APES! lol
You know a fact about something that will happen in the future? That in itself is far more amazing than the idea of cloning ever could be!

Right now, the biggest problem we have with cloning extinct animals is that cloning a large animal still requires a surrogate mother to carry the clone to term. One possible advantage of this is the cloned animal would pick up some of the mother's antibodies, making it a bit more resistant to modern diseases... one possible disadvantage is how the mother's immune system will react to an alien animal growing inside it. Also, when you talk about cloning an animal that's far larger than any comparative modern species, the difficulty in finding a surrogate multiplies.

Of course, when we talk about using cloning to bring back creatures who, through wholly natural means, went extinct thousands to millions of years ago, we have to ask ourselves the same question that has plagued manking for centuries... the question that has been pondered in science and literature, by everyone from Aeschylus to Mary Shelley, from Plato to Einstein. That question, of course, is: "Um... why?"

Well said Lesbian, of course we really cant ask father science why we are doing this, I beleive the scientists either want to 1.) Balance the ecosystem 2.) Study the animals or 3.) Experiment with cloning.
In response to Asguard
Yes, let's balance the ecosystem by intodrucing giant animals that can consume many more of those pesky endangered species than our wimpy modern animals can!

*Slaps Garthor with a giant wet noodle

Of course I dont mean dinosaurs! I'd like to see the smaller type like the wooly mammoth or sabertooth tiger.

Wooly mammoths are small?
In response to Asguard
Here's another fun fact from the future: when I rule all of creation (four or five years from now), anyone who uses the phrase "slapped (or whipped or lashed) with a wet noodle" will be strangled with his or her own wet intestines. With the use of cloning technology, even the most flagrant past violator (Ann Landers) could be brought to justice again and again for perpetuating this miscarriage of language.

Garthor didn't mention dinosaurs, either... a woolly mammoth would still be larger than any land animals we have today. Explain how either of those two creatures would help "balance the ecosystem" and I'll give you a cookie.

Nor are sabertooth cats!
In response to OneFishDown
They are quite a big species, but they are very small compared to dinosaurs, dont you think?
In response to Asguard
There are some very small dinosaurs.
In response to Garthor
Very true, just compare it to the larger kind, like the T-Rex ;p.
In response to Garthor
And of course, scientist have to be crazy to try and clone a T-rex. I wouldent want a dinosaur living in our world!
=-(.

You forgot to mention a "Giant Wet Noodle", you see there is a difference between a noodle that you eat, and the long-as-a-whip kind. Dummy ;p.
In response to ThreeFingerPete
hehe very true, sabertooth tigers are not cats
In response to Asguard
No, I didn't forget it... it bears no relevance. The phrase is one of the dumbest ones ever invented. Adding "giant" into it doesn't make it any better.
Just so you know, we can already clone the Wooly Mammoth, but its just a matter of being alowed to. The Sabertooth tiger has a small problem in cloning it, we lack the DNA to clone it. We can clone a wooly mammoth by putting it into a elephant.
In response to Jon Snow
there not, but they are in the cat family.
