Amen!

I have another account... but I cant tell anyone.... Yeah, um... if you're worried that people would think less of you if they knew, I have to say that's pretty improbable. |
Beleive me or not, I do have another account. But I will not tell anyone! I want a fresh start on the BYOND community.
|
ITS JUST AN ICON! Don't you have a life for god sakes!? Get over it. Without Dan, byond wouldn't exist.

For once I agree.. An Icon is a 32x32 icon.. Unless you personally make a game and have very valuable icons like.. Disney character quality. Dont bother complaining..
With 32x32 you have a very limited space for detail so It's really not worth the hassle. Its an Icon, and Unless your piccasso and make the best icon in the world, dont complain. Now, I dont mean to be rude by saying dont complain.. But I believe I have forsight into this issue, it gets you nowhere. I argued about a knife........A KNIFE!!!, IT WAS A KNIFE. back at the time it seemed very significant to argue about it, but I mean, 32 bits.. you can do better. Now if you make 3d art, complain then if someone steals it. And make sure you clean their wallet after you squeeze the crap out of it. |
There's a slight difference here... the reason you got nowhere was that the person you argued with hadn't stolen your icon... he hadn't, by anyone's account, even seen your icon. All he'd done was draw a different knife, at a similar angle, dripping with a different liquid. You didn't bother to dispute any of those facts at the time, so please don't revise history by doing so now.
Stealing icons is definitely wrong, but please don't diminish the conversation about actual icon piracy by bringing your "case" up. As you said, it's a 32x32 grid with little space for detail... if we compare all the swords ever drawn in BYOND, then by the criteria you used to detect the "theft", there's probably only two or three actual swords and the rest are "copies." |
make a very rude graphic depicting a private act that not many would be pleased with. Thatll learn'em
:D |
I don't know if anyone in this thread (or elsewhere) has mentioned this, but an icon in a BYOND game can be stolen with or without the FTP proc...
The instant it shows up on someone's screen, they can Print Screen to get a capture, and then crop the capture down to a 32x32 box around the icon... Bingo, they've now got an exact duplicate of the icon... Cut and paste it into a dmi file (or save it and import it into a dmi file), and no one could ever tell that it wasn't made right in that dmi file... Pixel for pixel, it'll be exactly the same... And there are many other methods, as well... So even if Dan hadn't been "evil" in creating the FTP proc, people could still rip off icons with very little effort... The FTP proc may make it easier for them to do so, but it more importantly has a lot of other useful, and beneficial functions that merit its existence... |

ok., Ill stop bringing things up from the past if you do. Lexy's stated problem with what you said wasn't that you brought up history, but that you presented it as a similar case when in fact there were big differences. Namely, that wasn't a case of icon stealing so much as freaking out over nothing. Now if Lexy dredged something up in a revisionist manner, I'd call her on that, just as I'm sure she would me. But since she wasn't doing that, and you were, I don't think you can use that as a way of getting people to concede not to mention your past. Lummox JR |
Hehe, I was going to say the Printscreen thing aswell but didnt want to risk informing people that didnt already know about it >.<

Your other key might have a lot of enemies, but you are the same person still. I don't know your other key, you may be someone I really hate. Since you don't want to say, I'll just assume the worst of you. |
I dont make things up, I get information from other sources which arent completely reliable.
Usually, when I say things, they are collected ideas or (facts) amongst whole groups of people around where I live. |

Well, at least you're admitting that your "facts" are nothing more than "something me and my friends came up with"... but amazingly enough, in the midst of this admission, you're still avoiding the issue. In this case, when I told you to stop making stuff up, it was as opposed to bringing stuff up... that is, when you offered to stop bringing up the past, I was countering by saying you weren't bringing up the past at all, you were making it up... obviously referring to your casting the incident with the knife icons in the same light as outright piracy. So, exactly which one of your neighbors or acquaintances put you up to this one? |

I know no better and faster way to check references than to use that information in a conversation and adapt. Thats the way I am, live with it and shut up. |

And you're still avoiding the issue. Specifically, you didn't address Lexy's question: In this case, when I told you to stop making stuff up, it was as opposed to bringing stuff up... that is, when you offered to stop bringing up the past, I was countering by saying you weren't bringing up the past at all, you were making it up... obviously referring to your casting the incident with the knife icons in the same light as outright piracy. So, exactly which one of your neighbors or acquaintances put you up to this one?And that's because you said: I dont make things up, I get information from other sources which arent completely reliable. So she's asking, if you're trying to say the situation with the knife icon is at all similar, which is clearly bogus, which "outside source" gave you the idea to say it? And stop shoving words in my mouth. Collected ideas of what people think is true is not the same as people coming together and making up BS. mis-interpretation something YOU are very keen on becoming a first hand victim of. Actually, if people come together and make up BS, and believe it, then the collection of what they think is exactly the same thing. And I think you're missing an "is" somewhere in that last sentence, because it came out garbled. I know no better and faster way to check references than to use that information in a conversation and adapt. Thats the way I am, live with it and shut up. I don't entirely understand what you mean< by using information and adapting. Adapting to what? For what reason? Do you mean if you say something wrong, and somebody corrects you, you say the right thing instead from then on? If so, you sure have a weird way of saying it. Our history with you shows this (accepting correction) not to be the case, but even if it were, it raises the question of why one doesn't just check their references before speaking. Granted it's hard to always do that and to do it right, but waiting until someone corrects you in conversation isn't the best way to check references by a long shot, nor is it particularly bright to make a habit of doing. Me, I'd rather avoid looking stupid in any conversation if I can help it, but I know that's not always possible; still, I do what I can to make sure I know what I'm talking about. If you do make a habit of talking first, learning later, it helps not to skip the learning part. Lummox JR |
