He could also mean South America, but as he didn't specify north or south I think it's safe to assume he meant the country. Well, I suppose that's how you could determine what he meant after your common sense failed you.

make false statements about Canada and Canadians. http://www.statcan.ca/english/Pgdb/demo29a.htm Uh, you seem to be misinformed about the number of french speaking canadians too. Check the total population of canada (29.6 million) and the total number of french canadians(including Quebec) 5.8 million. Only about 20 per cent of canadians in total speak french as a first language. But I dont blame you for your ignorance, I blame our educational system, which is well known for teaching ideas that are untrue. They should be punished by having their funding cut. they then also seem to make other really stupid statements like for example they seem to think that all Canadians are Hicks that drive old 65 Ford Pickups, this is Hardly true. Most likely you are from Ontario, where as demographics have shown, older vehicles have a stigma attached to them. This is understandable, as higher sulphur and moisture levels rust cars more quickly. I am pretty sure the same holds true for the Maritimes and BC. We hardly drive around in old vehicles either, but a mechanically maintained vehicle can last twenty years, and an old pickups are kinda admired(unless they are rust buckets). |

this brings up a good point.. what kind of stupid name for a country is "United States?" kind of a LAZY name. Do they honestly believe that they are the only states in the world to be united? And honestly how United can the states be when most states fail to agree on whats legal?
Symbolism aside, I believe the United States as the Country should be renamed to something more politically correct. This, however, is not a serious issue. |

Well, Ive been playing BYOND for about a year and a Half, and Im Canadian, and just about every time somone mentions Canada or Canadians, people begin to Insult and make false statements about Canada and Canadians. I can't speak for the rest of BYOND, but I generally only insult Canadians when Spuzzum is involved because Spuzz and I have a long history of picking on each other. :) Im Quite tired of this, for most of the part almost all the Americans I play with seem to think everyone in Canada speaks french, for one thing this is hardly true, only about 25% of Canadians speak French outside of Quebec, I'm honestly surprised to hear this -- of all the perfectly good reasons to pick on Canada, the French language and outdated vehicles are pretty lame. (As a matter of fact, outdated vehicles can be quite cool... though I have to admit that anything French, including that wacky metric system, just invites mischief.) Anyway, if you ever see me picking on Canada in the forums, please realize that it's in a spirit of fun. In the twentieth century, and already in this century, Canada has been highly reliable as a military ally in great conflicts. I expect that will continue. |
The people who make those jokes are either just messing with you (meaning, they don't really believe what they're saying, but they still think it's funny), or they're foolish for believing all of that is true and you should care less what they think.
I fall into mostly the former category. I'll admit I'm hard on Canadians (Spuzzum may be able to attest to that, although I don't think I've made any truly stinging or memorable remarks about it...) but as a Californian, I've learned to take these sorts of jokes well. I thus tend to assume other people will take them well too. |

Stats Canada says population in October 2002 was 31,485,623. They call that an "estimate". It's within that neighbourhood.
And hey, we can take the insults. It's all cool. I'm from B.C., everyone is a weed happy road hog. And hey, our province premier is a drinking and driving service cutting dink. It's all good.... :} -Dagolar |

We never consider ourselves as Americans. That is often distinguished in social situations. Even though we have very close lifestyles, people in Canada seem to prefer to being called Canadians than Americans.

I totally agree. One thing I think Canadians have sort-of learned to do (and if they haven't yet, good time to start) is to laugh at themselves. We have shows like This Hour Has 22 Minutes and the Royal Canadian Air Farce just to laugh at all the crap that's going on here.
I think it's good to keep it on the semi-serious side. So, Dragon, since you're half Canadian, I offer you half of my joint and half the space in my igloo. Enjoy. -Dagolar |

What exactly would we be called then...United Statians? For one, when the United States was formed, it was more of a descriptive term for the states that united, and it just kinda stuck. Anyway, to my point. COPE!
I am so sick of people whining about racism and sexism and religion...ism...hmm. They are words, that's all. If people would stop getting so freakin riled up about it, it wouldn't be such a major issue anymore! Every one of us has some generalized stereotype about us; Americans are fat and lazy, Canadians are dumb hicks, Mexicans are smelly and poor. Are any of these true as a whole? Of course not. I'm a United Statian myself and I'm not fat...maybe a bit lazy, but the prejudice doesn't fit me and it really doesn't bother me that someone seems to think that way. If someone thinks you're a hick, fine, why should this offend you? If you're not, then you're not. They can think that way if they want, there uncle can think that way, and even their freakin cat! None of this changes anything about you, especially when you don't even know these people from Adam. So let it go. My god, enough is enough. This PC crap is just getting stacked way too high. If you're fat, you're fat, if you're dumb, you're dumb (not mentally challenged, or handicapped or whatever it is now). |
Canada is a really great country. And for those of you who insult Canada or Candians really need to grow up. Only little geeky nerds and children make remarks about Canadians or Canada. And as for all Canadians being hicks, that's just stupid. Canada is a really big help to America. We trade with them and they usually back us up in a war. So people shouldn't be so ignorant.
