Well, there goes my PS2. I'm getting Disc Read Error over and over and over. Sony can't do anything about it without the $$$, and I don't feel like buying a new one. Anyone have any tips on how to solve this DRE (Disc Read Error) problem?

PS: I always knew Sony always makes crap!:
Q. Why are these Disc Read Errors so prevalent?
A. Simply put, the PlayStation 2 uses very cheap parts to keep production costs low. The PS2's laser is arguably the cheapest part in the entire machine, and really shouldn't be given awards for it's quality.

Well, i have had my ps2 for 2 years and have never seen a disc error like that. You can always replace the lazer, or have someone do it for you if you dont know how. Play station 2's are well build and can take a lot of crap, mine has seen some rough times. Sometimes you just get a fualty system.
|
I've never had any problems with my PS2, so you're probably not taking good care of it.
Several other people that abused their PS2 had this same problem and they were kind enough to post about it on the forum. I'd suggest you look to see how they fixed the result of their carelessness. |
Why must the playstations break so much!!!!
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo My dad's ps2 has been broken many times. I don't think anybody really abuses it. My gamecube has been abused like hell and it's got nothing wrong with it, and I can't even remeber a time when it froze after a year of playing. |
People dont realize that PS2's are computers, and how do you treat your computer? Probibly better than anything else in your house, you give it its own desk, you leave it alone. You dont bang on it(oftin). You dont take it everywere you go. People tend to forget that a PS2 is not a SNES where everything is crapped into this little box because it didnt get hot so it could not shake or raddle much, PS2 have to be loosly packed to prevent overheating, just like a computer. The dreamcast was tightly packed and would withstand almost anything, but they would overheat bad. So treat your PS2 right and it will last longer.

lol both the dreamcasts I own are [kooky]. They both hang on the start screen on any game 1/2 of the times you turn it on. My friends old one does it too.
|
hmm, i never had that problem, now the game CDs are crap and will get scratched up in twice the time a normal one would.
|
yes i hate that. I can't play multiplayer on my sonic adventure 2 because of scratches. And it was hella fun in the old days with lotsa friends

The PS2's laser is arguably the cheapest part in the entire machine, and really shouldn't be given awards for it's quality. To put it simple: The early PS2s are crap. Pure crap. You don't hear about Gamecube's or X-Box's having this widely of a problem. Tsk tsk, Sony, Tsk tsk. |
My gamecube controllers break often. And after only 5 times of throwing it across the room into the wall because the bosses on mario sunshine are annoying! I can't believe the cheapness of the controller.
I WANT A SHOCK ABSORBING CONTROLLER |
The WaveBirds are pretty nice.... no tangled cords...
:: drools :: I think I'm going to go play Gamecube now... ::chucks his PS2 out of a window:: |
lol, get some packing buble rap, scottch tape, and some plastic tubing. Now wrap the controller with the buble wrap, tape it so it stays that way, and run the cord though the plastic tube. Th plastic tub will slow its movment and the buble rap will dampen the hit.

::runs under dracons window and grabs the PS2 and repairs it for about 15 bucks in parts and sells it to someone for about 100 bucks::

Here I am wondering why everyone's play station 2 is breaking down, and yet mine remains stable as can be. I've also had mine for over 6 months and pack it with me everywhere.. Pretty much.. Mine has had no troubles, it has traveled a little, is moved from 2 rooms all the time. Never had a problem except that it sticks at the screen with browse and options or configuration for a moment before it starts the game sometimes.

I believe the problem is the little people in my PS2... hacking away at the laser lens.....
"Damn yous!!! DAMN YOUS TO HELLLLLL!!!!" |
