:-( sucks for u. I had that happen to me a lot, but that was cause i was bad... |
ive never once had to make up for a snow day, i smell bs here, they cant force you to go, and if you dont. they cant mark you absent. absence during this day will not result in any of your grades lowering.
i really dont care how your shool board works they cant mess with your life like that. there is no such thing as (make up time) the only thing made up here is the BS your principal/teachers are throwing at you. If I were your parent id fight them on that, not because its a small issue, but because its an issue that can stem and grow into larger issues, and is also a small issue others dont care to fight against.. im annoyed by how the rest of the world simply goes limp in the face of the unjust. ;) and thats why I push arguments. |

I agree, my school is trying to currently screw me over. They're trying to say I'm still classified as a 9th grader because THEY lost my records from summer school for Algebra 1. They said they have no records of me ever going when infact I did go and even finished a week early, and...they said unless I have proof(as in forget about it) I have to retake the class, so I told them to go f them selves.

This does strike me as odd. I would imagine most, if not all, public schools' policies do include provisions for making up lost days, and such make-up days are every bit as official and required as regular school days. However, most of the time my school ran over their allotted buffer of snow days, the extra days were added in by removing excess breaks, and once or twice they were added onto the end of the school year; adding in a Saturday seems pretty stupid. |

If i have over 8 absences in any one of my classes i fail that class, there for i must go. There is a punishment for not being there.

Whenever My school went over their aloted snow days I was simply handed a workbook with multiple handouts and was told to do it in homework.
But in my eyes this forced saturday is nothing less than torture. |

Well you can try to get absences removed at the end of the quarter, but thats about it, no reason to protest, its just a minor thing, its not really injust.

talk to a guidance counsellor about the loss of information. they are legally accountable for any loss of information on a student for up to 7 years

Ha, in my school you would get suspended in just a few minutes. My school doesnt bother hearing people out that think comprimise is not an option.

Yup, this is one i will agree with dareb on, fight it, they should have records, and if they dont, then its their fault.

thats what most people think before meeting me.. Im not sure what it is, but my very presense entices compromise in people. Although it doesnt really work over the net.. think there might be a certain hormone I release?

Ha, you have never met my prenceble, she is a cold woman, I really doubt you could talk her down. Most teachers in my school dont take a ton from many students.

This makes me wonder whether your state has some unusual regulations regarding school or whether your local school district simply chose to ignore them. It makes sense as a policy (I say if a student can learn the material on largely their own efforts--something, incidentally, I believe of most students, not just the smart ones--no sense making them sit through every single class), but around here it just wouldn't fly; the state mandates certain minimum attendence requirements which the schools write up policies to meet. The issue of snow days isn't so much about losing valuable instruction as it is about falling under required session/attendance time. But in my eyes this forced saturday is nothing less than torture. It's needlessly inconvenient, but torture? Get a free day off, lose a day off--the math of it is fair enough. I just have a hard time believing that adding a Saturday is actually more convenient for the students and the school than removing a scheduled break during the week would be. Maybe the state/district regulations are actually so strict there as to require a certain number of days or hours per quarter, and so they need to make up for time lost in the 3rd quarter by making up time before the 4th quarter. |

Well, really we have no more breaks sept for spring break till the end of the year, we filled in all of them with snow days. It was a harsh winter out here, well as harsh as North Carolina can get.
