I am thinking about making a new Trading Card Game, very similiar to Magic: The Gathering. It's just an idea, I don't see any actual perminent world "Trading Card" games on BYOND. I figured this might be a neat idea, I am not sure on how I should make it. I am asking for some ideas? Like, should I make it harder to get cards(pay dimes for like a pack, start with a free starter deck). Keep rankings, make packs free(but would need some way to counter this, so people couldn't just grab the best deck in the game at start). Maybe allow a currency in game, you start with the free deck, then you would gain money for winning and could purchase a new deck? Any ideas appreciated, just in the planning phase at the moment.

Ack, sorry about that. Wasn't sure, I last made Paintball Outpost.. left for about a year and have decided to finish it and make this new idea.. forgot and wasnt thinking, someone could move this thread :).

That's okay. :P

Worrying about pricing models shouldn't be an issue when the game is still in the idea phrase. Worry about it when it's DONE. Nobody is going to pay money to have a temporary deck in a beta version for a card game. Until it's finished and polished, just give people a set number of cards that they have when they log in.

Ok, thats a real good idea. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hmm this sounds kinda interesting.. I may do a Cyberpunk / Hacker version of this. I like the concept of buying digital cards which get stored on the client side, but not sure how to make this hack proof?? The only other way would be to store the cards for each player server side. But then you'd have to keep up with which servers you have cards on etc..

J/k. Since we're on the subject though, I submit this for your consideration. The problem with multiplayer games that depend on real-world money (especially things like EQ and UO these days) is they will forever be dominated by people with more money than bills and eventually no fun for the average working stiff ("Hmm... should I pay $50 bucks for the Artifact Sword of l337|\|355 on ebay or make my car payment") I REALLY like the idea of in-game money tho! |

I think having it to where you pay for (say 5 BYOND DIMES) is a stack or set of random cards from a stack that has normal cards with cards paid cards in it as well mixed in. Also set it up to make sure you get maybe 5 normal cards and 5 cards that only can be gotten by paying. Making it a random selection each time you're sure to get some of the same cards per pack.
Also would be nice to have a Trade Card function in the game so you could trade off all those unwanted cards, as well provide a way for those without dimes to trade and hopefully get a few unwanted pay cards from those with. Nice ideas, I have begun working on this.. don't wanna give away to much. I am pretty sure as to what I will do now, thanks for the help and suggestions :). I got this idea recently, I just bought a starter deck to the Magic The Gathering card game, went to a friends house and it was actually pretty fun. Didn't think I would like a card game lol, but it was. Anyway, my version will most likely be alot different than magic(the way turns work, rules, etc).

I was a pretty mean magic player back in the day, before people ditched it for Pokemon. =\ |

lol, poke'mon. I never even played it or wanted to try it sounds gay. Alot of people still play magic though! My friend said he went to a local tourny(every saturday) and 38 people were in it. But sure, I probably will want beta testers. I have a name for it, and a somewhat of a background story. Now to decide how to do the actual game play :P. Should I make it like Magic(same turn ways, and rules). Or make up some new ones? I am not sure, as this is the only card game I have played. I may want some help in deciding how to make the rules, my AIM is Magicbush12. E-mail is [email protected]
Thanks for any help! |

This sounds like a pretty good idea, man. I have some experience creating card games (made a few for playing with friends) and I believe I have a good sense for mechanics and balance. If you need any ideas or want an outside opinion, you can message me. If I'm not there, just send it to my e-mail.

I've played magic, still have some of the cards too (Love that bounty hunter =D )
If you want help testing/coding/etc I'll be glad too. Just page me or send an email to [email protected] Macros |
Well I'm glad to know that I am further along with mine than you are (Still hoping to be the first original TCG on BYOND). I've been working on this thing for a month+ and all the planning and drawings are completed for the basic release, right now I am just working on a system of interaction and it shall be ready for testing.

Well thats great, hopefully the testing will go well for you. It was still an original idea for me, since I didn't even know you were working on one :). I will still make one, although yours will most likely be out longer, etc. Anyway best of luck :).
