Its ok to gamble with ingame money correct?
As long as it's like "Gold" or something that doesn't have anything to do with BYOND Dimes.

Well, I think it is illegal if you offer a dime reward for winning in a gambling game. As long as no real moneys involved I think its fine.

I just wanted to be able to use ingame "quarters" to "gamble" with. No reward, just the fun of playing.(Ill see about keeping client side savefiles to store the money, think its possible to use the RC5 thing on client side saves?)
In response to Jotdaniel
I use RC5 client-side in my card games :)

Good, all I want to do is be able for people to keep their hard earned(well if you wanna call it that)ingame winnings for other games, but youll always start with 3 if you dont have enough for a game.

Thats where you need in-game loan sharks, or jobs you can go away and do then come back with money. You could also just go with Casino credit, that way you can really go into debt.

im cuurious as to whether dantom could ever actually put an end to something like that if someone used other methods

Nah, I don't want it to be that complicated, its a simple card game. It would be so much simpler to use byonddimes, but I don't think that would be allowed. If it would be, even under only strict tense, could someone please tell me?
In response to Jotdaniel
Nope, if it's real money - or exchangeable for real money - then you can't let people gamble for it unless you're a casino or something (to my knowledge, anyway). And even then there are rules restricting it.

Im wondering, if they cant get any money out of it, is it still considered gambling?
In response to Jotdaniel
Gambling by definition involves money, so if there isn't any money involved then it's not gambling. =)

Money or anything of actual value would probably be more accurate, although everything has value. Your basically allowed to keep score but not lose or gain anything.
So if I had some friends around to play poker Im pretty sure it would be legal too keep track of who is winning and losing using money, but the actual ownership of the money can never change via the outcome of the game.

I think it would snowball. They would put an end to one casino, but new casinos would keep on coming up faster then they could shut them down. Which would eventually lead to the destruction of BYOND, but the people who made the casinos wouldnt care because they made $3.50 in BYONDdimes.
Think about it, when kids start losing money perants would get involved.

BYOND is a programming language just like C. To say BYOND be put to an end because someone did something illegal is just like saying C would be put to an end because people make gambling software with it.
In response to DarkView
Yeah. That's basically what I meant. =)

Yeah, but Im pretty sure that BYOND counts as publishing the games. Im not 100% sure since Im no lawyer. The thing that seperates C from BYOND is that BYOND isnt a programming language.
I could write anything I want in DM and BYOND wouldnt get in trouble, but since BYOND distributes my game they take on some of the responsability.

Ok, I still dont think I got my point across, they pay for credits with byonddimes, they can win or lose the credits inside of the game, but they can never get any actual money out of the game. What about that?
In response to Jotdaniel
I think thats legal. Sort of like a arcade style machine. However I dont think it would take off. Unless its a once off fee.
People wouldnt want to keep on pumping money into it. It would be like playing a slot machine and getting nothing back. No matter how much you win you can never get ahead.
In response to DarkView
Encrypted client side saving my freind, would make the winnings transferable between games, and you could keep your winnings. Start with 3 credits, then if you win you actually wouldnt ever have to buy any. If you needed more it wouldnt cost much at all, but it would also keep the whole game from getting flooded with to many credits.
In response to Jotdaniel
Yeah, but the odds of never going in the red are very slim. If you play enough things balance out, but you'll always be jumping between a positive and negative cash flow.
Anyway, its your game so its your choice.
