Aah. hm. Well, not having read Eddings, I wouldn't know, however, to the best of my knowledge, LOTR is the best book ever written.
No way. Eddings is the best author I have ever read, with Isaac Asimov coming close second. LOTR is too archaic for me. I also think the plot is a bit obvious, although any kind of questy novel will cause that. Eddings is more modern, though. He doesn't write in a archaic style, and he is funny. Ce'Nedra still cracks me up.

David Eddings is A Very Good Author, that's who. =P The Belgariad is probably his best known series, but he has a bunch of others as well. I forget what the others are called, but they're all good.

So your calling Old English archaic are you? If no one else will, I will! I will also call a hamburger beefy, an automobile vehicular, and a milkshake dairysome. "Dairysome" probably isn't a word, though, unless maybe it's archaic. |
Just because its difficult for some people to read doesnt mean its not excellent reading. I wouldnt classify his style of writing as "archaic" either, its old, but stil quite understandable.

Meh, one of the things for me is the rest of the stuff: Silmarillion, etc etc. The whole world is so much more than LOTR.
|
I read the Sillmarillion from front to back, most difficult book I've ever read. Im a real stickler on pronunciation so it bugged me till I thought I was pronouncing all the names and such correctly.
|
Me too. The back has a section on pronunciation, as do the appendices of LOTR. My problem is the e+diareses (umlaut) - it states that it is always pronounced, but how? :P I tend to say "Feyahnor" or "Eyah" but anyway.. also, I used to pronounce Maeglin "Mieglin" along with other things - aheh is so annoying to say!

John Stainbeck's "Of Mice and Men" We just finished reading The Grapes of Wrath for English class. I didn't really like it, and I expected a better ending after 600+ mind-numbingly boring pages. But that's just me. |----------- OOC --------| |
I say feenor
And I have read the hobbit, the silmarrilion, and the three LOTR books. I just find it archaic, difficult to read and boring. And yes, I do read a lot, I like David Eddings much better then LOTR. Raymond Feist is a good author as well. And Isobelle Carmody. |
It might be difficult to read, but thats half the fun, and its not that difficult to read, your just complaining right there. Once you get into one of the LOTR books you hardly notice the fact that its written in old english.

Since I've finished the Lord of the Rings, I'm starting on reading the Necronomicon whenever I have spare time. The lord of the rings was one of the greatest I have read, along with these two books full of short stories about Forgotten Realms.

Raymond Feist? YES!!!!!
David Eddings? BETTER THEN SEX!!!!!
