IP Address...AND PLEASE RESPOND!!!

Does anybody know how to figure out your own IP address? Please reply.

Thanks, but I found out. For XP its through command prompt and it's always different. God, such a big headache for nothing lol.

Evertime your connection to the internet ends, when you make a new one you get a different ip adress. Its the adress at which you connect to the internet. I have cable, and my IP has only changed, I think, twice in about 3 years, because I'm always connected.

Of course winipcfg and ipconfig don't help you much if you are connected to the net through a router - the ip you get is the one for your internal network, often assigned to you by the router when you go online. 192.168.0.x, or 10.0.0.x are two common ip ranges for internal networks. You would need to ask the router (via a configuration page) what your ip address is...

Also, you can go to http://checkip.dyndns.org/ and it will give you the ip that connects you to the internet.

using winipcfg, i found that my IP was 0.0.0.0....... right..... but I know from many other websites (including www.dyndns.org) that my IP is different. I also use cable, and My IP has never changed in 2+ years.


P.S.
If anyone ever wants to find out there IP and some other cool information, go to yahoo and search "Whats my IP" without quotes

Your IP only changes if your existing connection to the internet is severed. If you have cable, your IP only changes if your service is cut off for some reason, and sometimes its still the same after that. Look at it this way, if you use AOL but never sign off, your IP will never change. Its basically the same thing, except that with cable your phone line isnt tied up, and neither is your cable TV, so you never sign off, and your IP never changes.

I've had power outages, times where the cables been totally out, totally rebooted the computer (had a virus), and amny other times where Ive lost the connection....weird enough, My IP has ALWAYS been the same.

That's because Jot isn't correct on this matter, it depends on your ISP if your IP changes when you disconnect, some companies don't have dynamic IP's (even some dial-up services).


So the moral is, not all connections' IP changes when they are disconnected, just the ones that are setup to.

Now that I think about it, the only time my IP changed was when Comcast switched service to their own network(previous provider went bankrupt, dont remember who it was).
