Is there any program out there where you can make a game for say PS2 or XBox if you have a CD burner? Thanks.

It's perfectly possible. How else do you think they made the games for the PS2? Magic? But you can't do it with a standard CD burner. The PS2 can read DVDs though, so it might be possible to program a game in that format. However, if you're going to be distributing the game, it would help to get an official Software Developer's Kit from Sony, but those cost thousands of dollars. However, they should provide you with what you need to create a game for the PS2. Do a search for them, or visit Sony's website, or something. Same deal for the X-Box.

Ok. But you'd have to get a DVD burner? I Guess I can do that. For a ps2 game :-P. Im not going to distribute the game. If I was, I would sell the idea to sony. I'll try going to the website...

For those that aren't entirely sure:
Estimated cost of the licencing fees alone to make any PS2 game: $20,000 US. Hope you have a good credit rating, because that's a pretty hefty loan. =) |
PS2 games dont have to be DVD, if you look on the back of cheaper and shorter games, it doesnt say DVD-Rom, but most games, such as Vice City, say it on the back. Hot-wheels turbo X isnt dvd, you can tell not only by the label, but the non DVD are blue, and the DVD are gold and have the words Playstation 2 lightly printed on the back of them( almost imposible to see, but its there). So in short, you can make a ps2 game with a normal CD-Rom, the only problem is that it probibly would not accept it because of the type of cd, you would need a chip put into you PS2, and that would most likly frie it into little chunks that the SPS co. would not fix for you. So i would not suggest even trying, stick to PC games.

I know this is an old thread but I just found this out, you can buy this package for the PS2, it has Linux, a harddrive, a keyboard, and a mouse. You can program your own games for the PS2. I don't know how hard it would be though. http://playstation2-linux.com/ faq.php#Can_I_program_PlayStation_2_Games_under_ - The FAQ http://playstation2-linux.com/ - Linux on your PS2 ~Blaz3 |
So its like turning your PS2 into a computer? then combine that with the internet cable, and its online?! Then I can run BYOND on ps2! Thats SWEET! *looks at the webpage for the price of kit*

Yep :-). I want to try it. The only thing is you can't burn your games. You can probably transfer it to your computer and burn it with a DVD burner?

Umm, you do remember that BYOND in Linux has no graphics dont you? Sure it would be on your ps2, but you wouldnt have any graphics.

Im just simply stating that it would be quite boring loading linux on your ps2 JUST so you could play text mode 2d games.
