What coding language does Byond use? And is there any thing I can use to make a single player game using the same language?
|
It uses its own language called DreamMaker (which also happens to be the name of the program editor/compiler for BYOND).

I mean besides Dream Maker, I want to make a single player game that I can sell to people to make big bucks =)

As BYOND stands now there's very little chance of being able to make a near commercial quality game and sell it for big bucks. Some BYOND games with really dedicated developers come close, though.

The Sphere Rpg Engine can be used to earn some bucks if you want to.

I think he is talking about what language is made in. Like C or C++ (I don't know what it's made in though. I'm not sure if that's what he's talking about either :-P)

You could try the sphere rpg engine, it's based off of javascript which has many similarities to dm. Take a look at http://www.gamingw.net for lots of rpg making programs. Unfortunately I don't know of another language that uses tabs/indentation to define blocks of code. You'll probably have to get used to using something different, like { and }.

Is there possibly a single player engine that uses EXACTLY the same language as Byond? Not a similar one, an exactly the same one. I want to make a single player game but don't currently want to learn a new language. I just want to have me reconized because I tell someone I making a game and they say bullshit and knock me out. I want to actually be able to show them without making them dl something, or if someone doesn't have the internet, I want them to be able to try my game and have some fun.

No, Dantom created DM, and they haven't made any other engines as far as I know.

nope DM can only be used with Dream Seeker, Why not just make it single player in byond? down the road Byond 4.0 is suposed to allow more of a full screen type of deal allowing games to look and be more profesionl.

You can create a game in the standard BYOND tools and simply not allow multiplayer. As was mentioned, the ability to customize the interface more is in the works. |
