you know what i'm gonna say! FEEDBACK
I see this as another tool to drag the gamers of today to the tv even more often...and, it would enhance the amount of gameplay possibilities exponentially. This cell technology could very well be the start of VR gaming cores.
DanTom, whats the word on byond possibly hitting the 3d world? maybe you guys could whip up a 3d fps gaming core for the new byond version 5.0, or 5.1...or 5.2...(anyone think of aol?)
That link dosn't work. Or I'm just too stupid to figure it out..
As far as I know, BYOND3d isn't coming out anytime soon. I know that Tom as briefly seen a 3D demo (at least thats what he said in a BYONDscape interview with Nadrew), but I don't see it being released. Maybe by version 5.0+. Well, lets just hope =)

Like people are saying in a different thread (Design Philosophy?), it's possible to make a 3D world with byond. Only.. it'll be too laggy. But like OneFishDown has proven, it's possible.

your right, it doesn't work...well, goto google and search
"ps3"
---3rd or 4th selection-any will do
but...heres an exerpt from the site in previous post:
----Code-named "Cell," the new microchips will employ the world's most advanced research technologies and chip-making techniques, including copper wires, silicon-on-insulator (SOI) transistors and low-K dielectric insulation, with features smaller than 0.10 microns -- 1,000 times thinner than a human hair. The result will be consumer devices that are more powerful than IBM's Deep Blue supercomputer, operate at low power and access the broadband Internet at ultra high speeds. Cell will be designed to deliver "teraflops" of processing power. ------
***drools at the pure power***
----The result will be consumer devices that are more powerful than IBM's Deep Blue supercomputer-----
that means handheld computers that kick your arse in chess wherever you go! o.O

I thought that was first person view, not 3D. In creations, someone is trying to make 3d, but the closest thing in 3D on BYOND so far I think is a mapping world by GugHunter.

yea...if you look somewhere else in off topics, you'll see my topic, as well as atleast 3 or 4 3d games to hit byond(more like demos, to show it's possible)

I have a fast 3d maze on BYONDscape, its not a raycaster though, its simply preset icons.

There are several games on BYOND that feature 3d movement, but most people wouldn't consider the graphics to be 3d. People could argue all day about what is or isn't 3d. I doubt you're going to see anything like Half-Life on BYOND anytime soon, but that doesn't mean that 3d on BYOND is impossible. It's been done already, many times too, people just have to stop comparing them to their misconceptions of "true 3d".

Airjoe: I thought that was first person view, not 3D

um, first person games usually *are* 3D - for example: Quake2/3, Halflife, Codename Eagle.
i say have customizeable icon sizes...so you dont have to put a bunch of tiles together...that would allow for more lag free movement of large sprites and possibly a 3d/2d first person shooter...
