Definition of Windows (from UrbanDictionary.com): windows "win - dough - s" My Windows PC crashed a lot. Until I realized that I surfed the web without a firewall, I needed to check for viruses every now and then. I was dumb for blaming all my computer problems on Windows, and I made an even worse mistake of trying out Linux instead. Example: Good riddance, Linux. Definition of Linux (from UrbanDictionary.com): linux "Lin-sucks" Used by jealous wankers who can't realize that Windows is just an example of technology getting easier for real human beings to use. They are too stupid to understand that double-clicking on an image is a lot faster than typing 23 lines of code. Example: Stop living in the 70's, geeks. The world is changing around you. the least you can do is go outside once in a while. Linux-freaks. Ha! Take that, Linux fanboys! :-P |
Mortal? Do you consider yourself a 'l33t g0d0rz' because you use Linux?... besides, I was just Linux-bashing for a change. Lots of Linux-fanboys have been Microsoft-bashing lately.

I'm not a "Linux-fanboy"; heck, I don't even have Linux installed on any of my computers at the moment! I simply recognize the value of a good operating system that is undisputedly more stable than anything Microsoft has made. (XP is apparently better than older Windows versions, but I haven't used it so I wouldn't know.) Meanwhile, Linux is getting easier and easier to use.
Anyway, my point was: I'm not a "Linux-fanboy", and I still enjoy a good spot of Micro$oft-bashing. Who doesn't? (If you don't, then all I can say is that you're a sadly deluded person. =P ) |
Yes. I am an elite god. My ability to feel flames is to be worshipped. My slang phrases provoke the anger of non-believers. I have danced in the fires of both Linux zealots and Redmond convicts. All hail me.
PS: "Being, please" sounded weak. *shrug* ;) |
No! NO!!! We must all hail the great Microsoft!! You can't bash them! You CAN'T! We must all sing their praises of how they fairly beat out all competition in a free market economy! No one needs anything other than windows, the OS is perfect, never crashes, never has hardware problems and is great for hosting!! The prices they charge are perfectly fair!! Everyone, join in the chant to our supreme overload Bill Gates!!! </sarcasm>
Actually, my old computer runs MUCH better on linux than it EVER did on windows. Windows was freeze and crash land. Now it works perfectly fine on linux. Linux also had a pricetag that was a couple hundred dollars less. :) |
DBZ (Dee-Bee-Zee):
Translation: Dragon Ball Z An anime cartoon that apparently includes hours of watching characters of the show hit a punching bag. Example: I r dr4c0n DBZer and l1ke DBZ. Do you consider yourself a 'l33t g0d0rz' because you play DBZ games?... besides, I was just DBZ-bashing for a change. Lots of DBZ-fanboys have been Linux-bashing lately. |
Linux works fine, as in getting better. It's starting to gain marketshare in some of the computer markets away from microsoft. All it's doing is improving and the only way for Microsoft to survive is to make an excellent near-bug-free product and sell it at a fair price. Which is the entire point of fair competition. It's nice that we'll finally have it with concern to OSes. Although Linux may not be quite ready(heh) for single home PCs, if you need to serve something 24/7 linux is one of the best choices for it. Many businesses large and small are exchanging their old windows-only setup for one that includes linux, even the desktop computers.
Also, linux hadn't even existed in the 70s, so your comment about the '70s is pretty lame. It likely wasn't anymore than an idea any time during the '80s. Linus apparently started working on it sometime in 1990 or 1991. |
Windows: An operating system for the computer 'illeterate' to use. Very widely used, because ~ 100% of the computers on the market come with it! Ask the average person what Microsoft is, and they can give you a 2 page essay. Ask them what linux is, and they will sit there puzzled. This is the way of the world!
Linux:Old isn't always bad. "They don't build things like they used to!" If I were to pick an operating system to advise someone to learn, this would be it. Stable, and not honestly difficult to learn. If I were to host this would be my #1 choice, because Windows has a "little crashing problem" - so to speak-. On another note, im sure we all know that Microsoft has the resources and time to make a VERY stable operating system, but your excluding the main purpose of buisiness. The main purpose of buisiness it to make money! Microsoft couldn't care less if their operating system crashes every 30 seconds, if people will still buy it for $200! James |
Dracon babbled:
They are too stupid to understand that double-clicking on an image is a lot faster than typing 23 lines of code. Ha! Windows requires a double-click? I use RedHat 9, and SUSE 8, and both only require one-click to open an image! Seems like Windoze needs to move forward in time! double-clicking is for people who have time to waste! I use Windows 98SE, WindowsXP Pro, various distros of Linux for the PC and Mac, *and* I use MacOS 9 and MacOS X! Out of all of these, the Linux and Mac machines are by far the most stable (can you say "install *without* rebooting"? I knew you could!), and easiest to use! I've successfully converted 12 people in the last year from Windows to Linux and MacOS X, and they all wonder why this didn't happen sooner! Modern Linux and Mac operating systems are just easier to use (especially on fast hardware) for many tasks. Heh, before I went on my bike-to-England tour, I successfully added a Mac G4 Powerbook to a business network. The IT guys kept saying "ain't gonna work - you're gonna need to do this, and this, and this...blah, blah, blah" - and while they talked about how much trouble it would be, the Powerbook had connected to their network wirelessly (found their access point automatically), registered itself with the local DHCP server to get an IP assigned to it, and soon I was accessing their public server (once they told me the guest access account)! Man you should have heard the silence and seen the jaws drop! (Converted two guys to Macs that day!) The power of linux/freeBSD on a Mac! Ha! Now that is not to say that Windows completely sucks - far from it. I have a WindowsXP Pro machine at home that I have nursed from a moderately stable machine, to a rock-solid machine that stays on 24/7 (of course it has 768MB of RAM, and that helps Windows stability immensely). And so far Windows still has the lead for the most really cool games (though that is quickly shrinking, almost on a weekly basis). --- Truth be told, all the operating systems out there still in use today do their job pretty much as good as the next guy - there are strengths and weaknesses to all of them. So maybe you kids should quit whining about whose OS is better, and focus those energies on learning how to get the most out of the system you have? Or learn the skills necessary to make the next generation OS? Or build really cool BYOND games! This forum would be a lot more fun if you did... |

It is true that the default for windows is double clicking, but by going to Start/setting/folder options/custom based/settings you can change it. |
I have been playing with redhat 9 and it is double click by defult, i cant figure out how to change it.

Wah wah wah, Boo hoo. Geez, I was just making a joke.
I mean- you Linux fans can say anything bad you want about Windows, and it's okay. But if a Windows fan says something bad about Linux, it's a damned crime. Damn whiteys always bringing me down... You people are so damned stereotypical, it's not even funny... actually, yes it is! Tee hee hee! Laugh at the 'l33t l1nux l00zerz'. -The Racist, Sexist, Lying Bigot, Windows Fan EDIT: You guys just don't get it! It's not Windows fault it crashes! It's because of your own stupid mistakes. The reason Linux is so more "stable" is because it can barely run a damn thing! I'm not saying that Linux is for cheap bastards who don't want to spend $100 on software, I'm just saying that they're bastards who don't want to spend $100 on software when they could get a crappier version (WINE) for free. |
Hey, i like windows, 99% of problems with windows has to do with security being to tight or user error. I have been running windows systems sense 98 and have had very few problems. I can run my system for weeks without any problems and i only have 384 megs of SDRam. I have all kinds of tweaks on my system and still no real problems. I only get errors when I do something wrong. Windows rarly crashes on me unless i am playing a game, and if that is the case, well, at least i can play games :P
|
That's the big requirement with windows. You need a TON of ram or else you WILL run into problems after leaving your computer on for a while. I never said windows was bad. I'd just never heard of windows fanboys or windows zealots.
|
To sum it up: Linux users don't like the microsoft monopoly. Linux users want a more stable system. Linux useres want to be able to configure anything they feel like configuring. Linux users don't want to have to be vulnerable to the increadible number of worm and virus-exploitable vulnerabilities in Windows. Besides, Linux just works better. ESPECIALLY if you're doing anything remotely related to servers.

Mortal, please. The Linux desktop does need work. Linux zealots, like any zealots, are annoying loudmouths. However, those definitions are nothing but ranting flames.
