Amen to that. I'm so sick of the whole "natural" thing. First of all, what are humans... supernatural? The hoover dam is every bit as "natural" as a beaver dam, and plastic doesn't violate some fundamental law of physics so in what way is it unnatural?
Yeah, humans made it, but we're natural creatures ourselves. If you look at the purely physical level, everything that has happened since the universe began is one uninterrupted chain of cause and effect... this includes the chemical and electrical signals in our brains... so ignoring any alleged spiritual or otherwise intangible plane, the invention of plastic and the additions made to cigarettes are themselves as natural as the formation of stars and planets.
But that's getting way off track.
I can understand someone who thinks cigarettes are gross. I can understand someone who thinks they're not. What I can't is someone who thinks tobacco cigarettes are gross but marijuana cigarettes aren't. "Sticking this weed in your mouth and lighting it on fire, then inhaling the toxic fumes thereof is gross.... but that weed, that weed is a whole different story."
And yes, marijuana smoke is toxic. Every gas is "toxic" in the sense that we need to be breathing a certain atmospheric mix to keep our brain and other organs' cells receiving a healthy mix of oxygen. If you're breathing smoke, you're not breathing oxygen-rich atmosphere.
Not saying marijuana is a hardcore drug or worse than alcohol or anything (although at least when I drink my Bacardi, it doesn't affect everyone around me or make the whole place reek like alcohol... everything you can say about second hand smoke from tobacco applies to marijuana, marijuana smoke isn't magically clean)... but it sure isn't better than tobacco in any way you can measure.

I don't mean this in any way of offending you guys but have you even tried weed??? Personally I haven't and I'm not gonna say anything for it or against not until I were to at least see what all the rave about is. But I'm pretty confident in the fact that I'll never try it.

A) Yes, I have... and having taken it, I have to say, I still don't see what the big deal is. Did you know that most people don't get the full effects of weed the first time they try it. That's kinda backwards from most drugs, where you build up a tolerance to it and so you only get the full effects the first time. Why does weed and weed alone work this way? Short answer is... it doesn't.
A lot of the effects people smoke it for (the mellowing, the feeling good, etc.) are "learned" behaviors... if they weren't expecting them to begin with, they'd never have them. Marijuana, much like alcohol, tends to lower inhibitions and magnify or exaggerate your mood, so if you're smoking it with the expectation that you're gonna go all mellow-like, then you will indeed go all mellow-like. A big part of it is also just the good ol' fashioned placebo effect. In short, marijuana doesn't do much for your mental state that you couldn't do for yourself. People who smoke marijuana get mentally addicted in that they come to believe that it's the marijuana that lets them feel that way. In shorter, if you wanna mellow out, just mellow out. :P B) Don't play the open-minded card unless you're actually keeping an open mind. Saying you're probably never going to try it is saying something against it. |
Things seem to be slowing down in Off Toic so I'm gonna ask a new Smoking related question this time it's for the non-smokers.
1)For those of you who don't smoke have you ever tried a cigarette in your life??? 2)If yes to above were you at one time a smoker then quit? It seems not many people who come to the forums smoke so this should help open up some coversation. |

I think people think that marijuana is not as bad as cigarrettes because there is some common belief that it is not addictive and you don't hear so many deaths reported that were caused by marijuana unless it was someone who smoked the drug and killed somebody. Now, by my own knowlege, marijuana seems to only be addictive when you do it more than a few times, but on my own experience, after the first time I don't see why anybody would want to do it anymore. Plus, not many people like the idea of their friends smoking marijuana, I remember what my friend said when he found out that some guys and me had tried it, "I am never going to hang out with you again if you smoke that stuff, and if I ever catch you, I'm going to punch you until you agree to quit.". Eh, well this paragraph seems to be scattered with information that really doesn't build up to anything, but what I really want to say is that marijuana is just as bad as cigarrettes, just for different reasons, and some are the same reasons.

Personally I haven't and I'm not gonna say anything for it or against not until I were to at least see what all the rave about is. But I'm pretty confident in the fact that I'll never try it. There are certain things you can probably safely assume aren't good based on second or third hand experience. I myself have not fallen off the second floor of a building onto concrete, but I'm quite certain it's not a pleasant experience based on the reactions of my dad. Likewise I haven't done weed, but I've had to deal with a producer that did on my first year digipen project. |

I've had a lit cigarette in my mouth at one point in my life, but I don't know if you'd call that smoking.
The circles I move in, nearly all of my friends have almost always been smokers, so second-hand smoke doesn't really bother me. Yes, it's unhealthy, but I have my own unhealthy habits... like everything else in life, the choice to smoke is a trade-off. My choice to have these friends is a conscious decision, as well. It diminishes my life in one regard and enriches it in another. I don't like inconsiderate smokers, though. If any of my friends were to light up during a meal or in the vicinity of children or something like that... well, they wouldn't be my friend to begin with. |

Smoking at school would only be a distraction and not be better for the students, I can't see in any way how it would in fact be better for students. And making sure your students all reach the minimum requirements for a high school degree seems like you guys aren't in the best interest of the school.

I get along with many and I never try to make someone alse smoke. If I see someone trying to make someone who doesn't smoke I'll step in. There are only two kinds of people I absoluttely people who hate Anime and can't keep the feelings on this to themselves and people who hate me just because I smoke and don't understand that smoking is my own decision. I hate it when they try to control my smoking. No I'm not talking about my parents they don't care if I smoke as long as I smoke outside.

Digipen are these adorable but powerful creatures that live in the Ink Realm. You must capture them using a special fountain pen, and then you can release them to fight battles by squirting them onto your Game Notepad.

What's a digipen project? Digipen is a school run by Nintendo that teaches video game development. If you want more information on the school(and free student made games :)) check out http://www.digipen.edu . Each year we have a game projects class which has us develop a game(everything from building all the design documents to making all the box art and manuals) in a similiar fashion to how it would be done profesionally. |

The schools best interests are getting the students their high school degree which will allow them to get more jobs and this still leaves the option of coolege open. If you are in the top half of your class you can go to the Tech College in town after school for free. It is a bonus option the school gives you. If they didn't allow smoking studnets would be even more disracted and more than likelly be late for class. Wihtout smoking the students would drive off school property to go have a smoke and more than likelly get back to class late.

So you hate people that don't like you because you smoke and don't care to know why, but at the same time you automatically hate someone if they dislike anime. Doesn't that seem a bit hippocritical? Someone could dislike anime for perfectly good reasons, but you'll dislike them on the sole fact that they dislike anime? Heh and since I fit in both categories you'd really hate me :). |

That's pretty cool now there would be good school to go to, but it is not really what I plan to be. I would like to either direct or make animation or write Graphic Novels. I've been wanting to find a tutor or something who could teach me Japanese. I know it is supposed to be a Really difficult language to learn but I'm willing to learn.

Funny how that is just a basic assumption, at my school I know plenty of people who smoke weed but they never just drive off campus to smoke it in the middle of school. It's basically your school just building upon this idea that kids should smoke weed while learning that bothers me. IT does not help in any way increase the learning process, or at least there is most likely no scientifical proof of it doing this.

I can get along with someone who hates anime I just can't get along with a person who hates anime and can't keep that opinion to himself. Personally anime is one of the most important things to me. If they keep their thoughts of anime to themselves I'll my thoughts of anime to myself.

Well I think you misunderstood where the school is located :). There are only two Digipens at the moment and despite them being run by Nintendo niether are in Japan. There's one in Washignton and there one in Canada. I've also heard they're starting up on in Europe. Also Digipen has two different majors one for the programming side, and one for doing the art/animation. Though they seem to like torturing the poor programmers like me by having a few art courses in thier ciriculum :P. |
Just because its natural doesnt mean its good for you. I wouldnt smoke poison ivey.
