P.S.

Please excuse any spelling errors.

Its really a bit sad that people feel the need to add these kind of disclaimers to their posts. Says quite a bit about what kind of community we are becoming.
What ever do you mean?

possibly meaning that in the time it takes to write the apology for the spelling errors, the poster could have taken the time to proof-read his post before submitting it. to me, such a "p.s." basically says "sorry I'm too lazy to proof-read, or use a dictionary!"

and your attempt at pitiful german humor can be considered a racial slap to those of us who live in Germany. it would be best to keep that type of commentary to yourself in the future so that you do not violate community standards.

Well this is the only forum I post on and visit regularly. I occasionally visit other forums to dig around and look for any useful information but they tend to be cluttered with large signitures(usually containing pictures as well), lots of incoherent babble, plenty of language either abbreviated in acronyms or masked out to avoid the automatic filter. This forum is much better off than any others I've seen thanks to the people who spend a lot of time moderating it. Things aren't perfect here but I think this place is very good compared to most other forums on the internet. The problem is no matter how good things are there will always be people whining that they're being treated poorly, so there will always be people whining.

And as far as the apology for poor spelling and grammar goes I agree with digitalmouse that it seems like a lazy excuse for not reading over the post and fixing obvious errors. It does take more time to do this but when you do you present yourself as being a person who will take time to do things correctly. The sooner people learn this the sooner they will be treated seriously.

About the spelling mistakes, I understand what you mean. People should check it over to be sure it's ok. If I'm writing a lot what I do is organize everything into blocks so it's simple to check.

But on the other hand, if you're in a hurry and you need to go for some reason or another I think it's not so bad to put that sort of P.S., but give a valid reason for why.

And about that "zieg heil" thing, he should learn to spell, especially when he's posting in a topic that has talk about spelling errors and being too lazy to correct them in it.
I think most of you are missing Flick's point... either that or I'm missing his point. =P I interpreted his point as being that people feel the need to add disclaimers to their posts in order to avoid being flamed.
In response to Crispy
Thats exactly how I interpreted it, seeing as it would be sad if people became so afraid of being flamed in these forums that they would ask not to be ahead of time is a pretty bad standard.
What, i was tired and didn't feel like proof reading ok? Big deal, i wanted anyone reading it to excuse the spelling errors. So what are you whinning about, theres absolutely nothing wrong with that.

And yes, normally i ALWAYS read over my posts, except when i'm angry or am tired! ^^;

You seem to have missed Flick's point. He was saying that its sad that people need to apologize for their spelling errors before someone replies and bites their head off.

I don't think these forums are so bad when it comes to stuff like that. I think it's just the people writing the "disclaimers" are paranoid about people not liking them because their not perfect when it comes to spelling.
If they didn't bring attention to the fact spelling mistakes were there most people wouldn't even notice.
I make more mistakes then anyone when it comes to spelling, but I rarely get them pointed out (unless I'm being an ass, correcting someone, or I do it constantly in front of the same person).

Yeah, i know where hes going (Maybe i should start doing that.), and i fully understand why. This community has a horrible "ladder" problem, someone always thinks they are better then the other and it just goes up and on and on.

I really do doubt that we could fix this, too many people are like this.

Heh, thats interesting in that neither of those examples was posted by 'Karasu Kami' ;)

The only "ladder" problem I've seen around here is people complaining about being newbies. Lummox JR, Deadron, Nadrew, AirMapster, ACWraith, Hedgemistress, Digitalmouse, Gughunter, Spuzzum, ect don't go around around calling each other Gurus and ruling the forum with an iron fist.
It sounds like I'm sucking up to the oldbies, but I'm really not. Most of the "ladder" is in your head. You jump to the conclusion that "this guy thinks his better because he's been here longer" when really it's stuff they would say reguardless of how known they are/long they have been here.
In response to DarkView
Yet another example of people naming digitalmouse as a guru because he has his own website.
In response to Garthor
Actually I meant to say oldbie since that was what the post was about (oldbies vs newbies), it was just a mental slip up. I know he doesn't actually know any DM. I was devistated for like a month when I found out that little tidbid of info... =P
In response to Kusanagi
But, c'mon, can you blame them sometimes?

If someone like Garthor replies to your post with his usual self, -_-

Of course, then there's the too sensitive, like when Lummox JR says "No put usr in proc. Ungh." and they start to :'(

well, mostly I blame american society, and there appears to be the big tension against europeans, or canadians and the american users, I can't describe it, but look at it this way:

If you have to label a toilet with a warning that says:

"Warning, may cause drowning", your society is seriously F-ed up.
In response to Ter13
We only have to do that because the idiots who do actually die in a toilet will have there family sue. In one case, a woman was driving in the car with a open cup of coffee fresh from dunkin donuts, and she rode over some train tracks. She got coffee all over herself, and sued dunkin donuts for not putting a warning.
In response to Airjoe
That's only explaining how our society is f-ed up, not proving that it isn't. :P
In response to Karasu Kami
Um... did you ever stop and think that this "ladder problem" might be in your head? People respond to the things that you post, not the age of your key... if you don't like the responses you're getting, stop and think about what you're posting.

See, someone makes a post that's not about you that isn't even complaining about the thing that you thought they were complaining about... if it had been about you, it would've been a post of support, not an attack...

..and yet you go out of your way to interpret it as being about you and to interpret it as being an attack. If you think a) everything is about you and b) everything about you is a personal attack, then your mind is going to need to find an explanation, and since you're relatively new to the forums, you assume it's a social ladder.
