Just a strange little opinionative (did I spell that right?) question, but out of the people here that use either Photoshop or PSP (or both!), which one do you prefer? I can't seem to choose between the both, but I figure one has to be better than the other for pixel art.

there have been a couple of posts on this. Use the search.
Definatly Photoshop...
I used to like PSP back when I was really new to images. Nowdays I use the copy of Photoshop (specifically ImageReady) work has laying around.
Photoshop is a harder, but I think it's better. Although they are both great programs.
The part where PSP is 1/6th the price of Photoshop made me go with PSP. :P But I've never used Photoshop so I can't say which is better.
Well, they are almost the same, and for those who say PhotoShop is harder, I say you are crazy. I like PSP myself, but ether is nice. If you plan on buying one, go PSP because it is much cheaper, and very little diffrence. For as much as PSP is missing that PS has, PS is missing as much of diffrent stuff that PSP has.

It's harder, not hard.

GIMP rocks! (once you get used to it)

It is a great free alternitive, but if you have the money, it isnt the best.

Well, I'll go check out GIMP, but I was mainly asking the question not based on price, since I happen to have both PSP and PS7 =D

I find the interface annoying. I'm partial to the style that PS uses.

Agreed

i find the interface highly customizeable... just right click and use the "tear off" menu-tops to put your most used menus/functions anywhere you want... I dedicated my secondary monitor to about 8 of these so that I have all I need to work on an image as close as a mouse click!

I just like an uncluttered interface that's all inside one big main window that covers up the whole screen. :)

For some reason I just can't bring myself to install a program named GIMP.
In response to DarkView
But you can install a program that was made out of DUNG?

GIMP's reliance on the X-Windows interface is the main reason it's shunned on MS Windows machines. If it used a MDI like any sane program, I bet it'd have widespread distribution.

Yeah, the lack of MDI appears to be the largest problem, at least in Windows. I'm guessing it might have more to do with GTK+ than GIMP itself. Supposedly, MDI would be hard to do without rewriting a lot of code. I think someone on Slashdot mentioned using multiple planes (with one plane dedicated to GIMP) to at least clear the window manager toolbar, but that doesn't help in Windows without some kind of add-on.

That said, I have not tried any recent versions of GIMP yet. The dockable windows might help. GIMP 2.0 for windows should supposedly be out soon. I'll try it out again then. Right now, I need to learn how to use Sodipodi (which also uses GTK+ and lacks MDI).
I like PSP because of the price. =)

I think the main difference can be summed up by looking at their names:

Paint Shop Pro - Paint stuff.

Good for pixel art, for example, which makes it great for BYOND icons. Also does most of the features you need in a paint program. The only thing I don't like is that Photoshop has more and better filters. =) You can still get a lot of Photoshop's filter effects, it just takes more work.

Photoshop - Do stuff with photos.

Can do most things PSP does, and more. You have to do a bit of fiddling to set it up for pixel art and the like, but that's not too hard. If you have the money and you want the extra features, go for it! Otherwise, get PSP.
Photoshop. Throw away PSP now.

:-D Of course, this is only my opinion.
