I have been working on flashchat, and it currently is the most linux friendly chat on byond(that i know of). And anytime I add something new, i try and think how it can be better for linux users. It seems I am making it more to be compatible with linux, then work well with flash. Do you think this is a good thing? Should I drop flash, for the most part, and go for a more linux friendly version where everything can be done though the command line? Just some questions I am having.'

**Linux tips**
ctrl+L will clear formatting, making text easer to see(and visable if black)
ctrl+G will display the last link in the command line, good for if a link came up and you cant scroll back
ctrl+F will hide the commands panel(allowing more space for chat info)
How does the flash work in Linux? Hmmm, I'll have to join later while in Linux. I don't get how the flash pop-up would work...

To reply to your idea:
Continue with the Flash. Maybe you can make a Linux-Friendly chat later, or after your done with the flash incorporate the Linux point. Not many BYONDers with Linux use DS, but it is annoying to those who do...

You missunderstood. Flash Doesnt work with linux. and that is half the problem. If I try to stay true to just flash, than linux people are screwed.

If flash isn't working in Linux (as I thought) then I think Chatters is more Linux friendly, despite it's flaws easily see-able to the Linux-ers.

Well, actualy, just like chatters, you cant access the main menu, but flashchat is made to make sure you can see all text in it when on linux. Chatters has a very bad problem with black text and the black background. I have made sure flashchat didnt have that problem. I also make all commands with linux in mind(making sure it is easy to do stuff like find and change rooms, or even create them.

then tell me, oh oracle, just what *do* BYONDers with Linux use? is there another program besides the Linux DS that we don't know about? and to think I was using Linux DS all this time only to be proven wrong! :p

hmm... *opens up Mozilla Firefox under Mepis Linux, and calls up www.illwillpress.com and watches a few flash comics*

how odd! Flash works for me just dandy!

and don't forget Flash for Linux -> http://f4l.sourceforge.net/ (though progress is a bit slow because the developer is in school)

Scoo - you might want to try and see if you can host Flashchat via BYONDcgi - that way All platforms can possibly chat using their flash plug in for browsers.

Sorry, "Flash in DS in linux doesnt work" I guess i shouldnt assume. Well, flash runs very slow for linux. There is a copy of flash released for linux made by macromedia.

maybe (though i find that hard to believe at the moment, based on personal experience), but then a flash-based chat program should not be so process intensive (aside from sending chat data)

Well, i know in comparison to windows flash it does. I have a 500mhrz computer with over 128megs of ram and it runs flash movies slower than a 233mhrz with 64megs of ram. The 500 runs linux and the 233 runs win98.

I have not yet been able to get info into flash from DM. So short of some stuff that would make it just a pain to run DMCGI(almost pointless), running it all the the flash menu is almost impossible. If I was going to do a webpage base flash chat, DM would be about my last choices to use. What I am actualy trying to do is make a DS chat that is very friendly with linux, but also uses flash. This creates problems because DS for linux cant do pop html pages.
