Funny thing just happened, I was messing arround with my xbox (I have it softmoded) and there was a option that said format to retail HD so I was like "OOOO GET TO GET LIVE OFF" so I clicked I and backed up my hard drive before doing it.. Only part I forgot was when I did the dvd region fix I forgot to sign the xbe file and now I'm completly locked out of my xbox dashboard and can't login through ftp since I formated and the softmod was gone XD. Has this happened to anyone before? if so what did you do? I'm probably just ganna buy a mod chip so I can install evox for ftp and restore...In a way I'm happy cause now I can ask my mom for money for the chip since I can say "If I don't get it, I won't be able to fix my xbox!" (Don't have to waste some of that money in my paypal XD)

You probably lost some of the important dashboard files, which I can help with. I personally advise on getting a modchip as tehy are easy to install and let you get new harddrives. I installed a 120Gb hadrdrive only yesterday.
As far as chips go I'd say get the Xenium. I've found that as a 4th generation chip its great and worth any price (I paid £35 which is roughly $45?) I would get it from divineo.com as they are the official suppliers ;)

The only things I really lost were my config files for the dashboards, other then that everything is easy to get back through #xbins.. As for the mod chips, I was ganna wait for the Xecuter 3 to come out but since I actually need a chip now I bought the xenium w/ solderless adaptor so it's easy to take out if I want to upgrade my chip later on. Also, What hard drive did you get because I've been looking for some (Lockable & Cheap) but I can't find anything, or it doesn't say if it's lockable or not..

(Would talk on aim but you're not on atm and my msn won't work for some reason =/)

From experiance I've never had problems with lockable drives, I guess your after Xbox live but I'm not so I just brought a really nice cheap one without thought. I don't think it should be too bad whatever Hardrive you get.

hmm, Thanks, I'll probably just get a cheap hard drive then and just buy another xbox for live and the games that have the update.xbe, and updatedash.xbe files on them.

Yeah, I know about all the alternatives like XBConnect and GameSpot's, I even know of some that go directly into your box and you don't need a pc but XBL has way more people on it, has dlc, better speed, and voice (well, so do tunneling software but only for XBL games :P)
