Not sure if this is the right place to post but I have Windows XP and am having trouble Hosting. When i do ctrl + Alt + del i see svchost.exe 4 times. One under Local service, one under Network service, and 2 under System. I was just wondering if svchost was the reason i cant host? I would test it myself and end the process on all of them but Im afraid it could be dangerous so thats why i came here and am asking you guys. By the way I have searched the forums and Have Disabled the windows XP built in firewall by doing these steps.
1.Start
2.Control Panel
3.Network and internet connections
4.Network Connections
5.Right click on both the files
6.Go to there properties
7.Go to Advanced
8.Then uncheck the Firewall box for both of them.
Anyways thanks for reading and hopefully someone can help me.

Your cable company doesn't have any magical abilities to install software on your computer. Unless they came around and set it up for you and happened to install a firewall... but I doubt it.
You can usually check by looking in your system tray (next to the clock). Run your mouse over each of the icons there and see if any of them have names like "Internet Security" or "firewall". They may, however, have you behind a hardware firewall (or a funky NAT setup) that is located in their server room or wherever. In which case there's not much you can do. I'd suggest calling tech support and asking them if your internet connection is being put through a firewall of any kind on their end. |
Do you have a router? Third-party firewall?
