I dont want this to turn into a racist flame war or anything..I was in chatters and I said that I'm not going to put white people in my game. Immediatly I was called racist, yelled at, etc...When i asked GDT a simple question he said "Does it really matter?"

I was in chatters at the time when this happened. All dession said was that he wont put white people in his game and everybody started calling him racist. i agreeded with him and got called racist aswell.

Those of you that know GDT know that he's usually quite calm-headed, and that something is obviously screwy here.

I was there too, but he never gave a reason why. He pretty much just up and said...

I really dont think black/tan people are over-looked in games..I seriously think they dont put them in there on purpose...My reason is that blacks arent in every game so whites dont have to be.

What is the sense in not saying who was acting like a totaly jack ass? I read the conversation and Nottsaying was being a total goober.
But its not all his fault. You do not nessesscarly have to go into chatters, of the forums for that matter and announce that you will not be using whites. Why would you do that? I'll tell you why, your looking for attention or trying to start some sort of god damn fight. Knock it off. Personally I have no problem with that. I feel everyone is the same, in the inside. Not the outside. But, in most byond games I try and have every colour skin possible, just because, I have been told by black players, when they play a game, the PERFER to be black. So out of a general curtesy to the players, I do it. Right there your in the wrong, your just saying, I like whites, but I refuse to give the players the right to choose what skin colour they want to be. And you also compare it to other games. Who cares about OTHER games, your brining the topic up about YOU. It would be like.. Making a game based around religion, and then saying, well... I dont mind christians, but players cant choose that religion for their player. And then give no reason? Players are bound to be upset. Another thing is, if your going to bring something like this to topic, do NOT bring it in chatters. Alot of the people just hanging out there are jerk wads, who have nothing better to do, then sit in there and talk down to people. Yes, there are SOME smart, considerate people in there, but as a general thing, unless I dont feel like being serious, chatters isn't the best place to be. Your asking for trouble talking like that in chatters. In the end, this is your choice, and no one can stop you, and there is nothing wrong with deciding to leave whites out, its your decision. But bringing it up in this manner is gonna bite you in the ass later on. | |

Well DarkView I actually think and write down everything in my game before I start making it..I dont just go in and do things..I plan ahead and make sure everything is how I like it.

You've planned this out and come to the conclusion that you'll do something you're against* like simply because it's been done to you. It's not a case of overlooking the fact that you'll have non-black players. It's not just some casual mistake. There is no real purpose to include a certain skin color in a game, it certainly wont improve your skill level. Choosing to leave a race out of a game isn't considered racist. I've played plenty of online games where all the characters or models or whatever were white or black or green, you get the point. That does not imply on the matter of the developers being racist. It isn't like Dession is flat out saying "I'm not going to put white people in my game because I do not like them or their race". Of course I think this whole 'incident' has been blown completely out of proportion. | |
What races of poeple you have in your game is entirely up to you, but just the same as everything else don't expect to flaunt the races that won't appear in front of those types outside of the game. Thats like taunting a lion with fresh meat. I would play the game, if there is a reason in the games' storyline as to why there isn't a specific race.
Bad example, but: In Planet of the Apes alot of "racism" occurs, but its looked on to be okay, because it is part of the storyline. | |
